Vote: Did Culver flip TIR the Bird?

TIR blogger and photographer Dave Davidson attended the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association meeting today. It seems as if Governor Culver sent Davidson a message when he was getting his picture taken. Or maybe the Governor’s “hidden message” was intended for someone else in the audience.

Recently, members of the media told Culver that he needs to be more assessable and friendly to the media. Kathie Obradovich, a columnist for the Register noted in her most recent column, “You can’t say Gov. Chet Culver isn’t learning from his experience as governor.”

Obviously, he either doesn’t know how to properly place his hands on a lectern, or he really dislikes TIR photographer Dave Davidson. Either way it looks like Culver has regressed back to his old ways of being confrontational with the media.

What say you? Did Culver flip TIR the bird?

Anybody old enough to remember when Nelson Rockefeller unabashedly _did_ give the finger to a news camera and interviewer on the floor of the national convention? I don’t remember if that was in the late sixties or in the seventies. Whenever, it certainly spiced up politics for that presidential nominating summer.

Hah! Just remembered another good one.

The repubs had their convention after the demo one that nominated Carter and Mondale, who had nicknames of Grits (Carter) and Fritz (Mondale). Anyway, I was idly watching the gavel-to-gavel coverage of the repub one during one of the mid-days when the camera was panning slowly around the seated delegates. Really yawner stuff mostly. Until that is, the camera got to a funny-hatted guy who must have been waiting foe just such a moment. The guy quickly held up a sign that read: FRITZ AND GRITZ GIVE ME THE SHITZ’
I remember having one of those really memorable belly laughs over seeing that.
