Pate Will Not Run for Secretary of State

pateAfter months of rumors that former Secretary of State Paul Pate would run for his old office agian, Pate announced today that he will not seek the Republican nomination. Pate’s plans to seek state-wide office in 2010 were put on hold due to the health of his parents. Both of his parents have experienced health problems recently and he wants to be there with them during this difficult time.
Pate made the following statement today.

As a former Iowa Secretary of State I want to thank the many Iowans who have encouraged me to seek this leadership position again. I appreciated the opportunity to serve Iowans as a State Senator, Mayor and Iowa Secretary of State. Reflecting on this important leadership position and considering my family and business demands I will not be seeking Iowa Secretary of State position.

I have great respect and admiration for those that run for elected office. Councilman Schultz and Rep. Eichhorn are both honorable men and will offer Iowan’s an excellent choice for new leadership. I will continue to support and be active in government as a private citizen. Thank you for your encouragement and continued support.

The Republican Primary now comes down to Matt Schultz, a young energetic city councilman from Council Bluffs, and George Eichhorn a former legislator and US Senate candidate.

“Honor thy father and thy mother.” Pate, you’re doing it and you’re respected for it.

You are setting a good example for your children.

Paul Pate is a good guy, and I’ve been reading about the health of his parents on his FB page off and on for the last months. I’m sure it was tough and respect him even more for making this decision. All the best to the Pate family.

Pate is a class act, and clearly has his priorities straight. That is respectable and sets a great example for many. Prayers for his parents!

Pate is absolutely a class act and definitely didn’t deserve the trashing he got from some in the “principled conservative” circles!
