Boswell Struggles to Collect Polk County Signatures

mental healthCongressman Leonard Boswell has had to squelch rumors that he may retire from his third congressional seat in Iowa. Boswell and Iowa Democrats have been quick to say that the seven term congressman will indeed run for another term.

Now that Boswell is willing to run, it seems as if he is having trouble getting enough signatures to place his name on the ballot in Polk County. Boswell has placed an ad on Craig’s List looking for workers to gather signatures.

Third District Republican congressional candidate Jim Gibbons thinks that Boswell having to pay for signatures is a bad omen. “I have been encouraged by the overwhelming grass roots support that has come to my campaign,” said Gibbons. “It is disappointing to see that a sitting Congressman has to rely on paying for signatures to get his name on the Iowa ballot. This could be a signal of things to come for Mr. Boswell,” Gibbons concluded.

The Boswell ad reads:

Local political campaign is seeking people to help in gathering signatures for nomination petitions for upcoming election. Work is very flexible and pays $2 per valid signature. In need of help now through February 15th. Please call Hugh at 515.473.4567 or e-mail hugh.mcguire@boswellforcongress.com for more information. Polk County only.

• Location: Polk County
• Compensation: 2 dollars per valid signature
• This is a part-time job.
• This is a contract job.
• This is at a non-profit organization.
• Principals only. Recruiters, please don’t contact this job poster.
• Phone calls about this job are ok.
• Please do not contact job poster about other services, products or commercial interests.

The ad has been running on Craig’s List since December 30th.

In 2006, Republican Congressman Jim Leach struggled to collect the necessary signatures in Iowa’s 2nd District. Leach, a 30 year incumbent, was defeated that fall by Dave Loebsack, who, ironically, had to be nominated at his district convention because he failed to collect enough signatures.

After tonight’s landslide win in MA. He may want to rethink his “health and spending time with his family” again.

That’s the answer to all Democrat work flows, buy the workers, hire the protestors….

I love the contrast in some of the events of the hand mad signs on the right versus the professionally manufactured “grass roots my a$$” signs from the left.

Maybe we should go apply for Boswell’s two bucks a signature and get him on the ballot. We’re using his money and we can donate it to his Republican opponent. Boz may be easier to defeat than some other Democrat.

Hey..Boswell’s getting the best help that PAC and union money can buy….

But cmon..shouldn’t people be demanding that Boswell provide them with health care and subsidized day care for doing this work?
