George Eichhorn Announces for Iowa Secretary of State

Eichhorn_photoCiting a need for a full accounting of all funds spent in the Secretary of State’s office and new Republican leadership at all levels of government to move Iowa forward; the former Republican Chairman of the Iowa Legislature Administrative Rules Review Committee, George Eichhorn today is announcing a campaign for Iowa Secretary of State.

In making the announcement, Eichhorn said, “Iowans not only want fair elections, they want to know that the Iowa Secretary of State is spending their tax money fairly. The United States Election Assistance Commission’s recent audit showed funds were misspent. Only after the audit was released was the public made aware. The current Secretary either ignored the problem or swept it under the rug for years,” said Eichhorn.

The audit summary found among other things, “that the SOS did not account for and expend HAVA funds in accordance with the requirements.” And that as of April 30, 2008 (during Mauro’s tenure), the State’s liability for interest alone on the failure to timely deposit and fully fund the state’s matching share of HAVA funding was estimated to be over $12,000. It also found HAVA funded equipment at most of the counties visited did not comply with federal guidelines and that funded equipment at Mauro’s office disclosed items with the wrong serial numbers.

“It should not take an auditor hired by the federal government to come in and find out Iowa’s funds were misspent. Iowans want to have trust in state officials. Washington spending is out-of-control and that epidemic of fiscal mismanagement seems to have infected the Secretary of State’s office, Eichhorn said, “People are rejecting the Democrats free spending ways. Voters are looking for solid, conservative leadership they can trust.”

Today Eichhorn also announced the names of his initial statewide campaign Co-Chairs including: former Republican Assistant Majority Leader and State Representative Carmine Boal, a well known conservative leader from Polk County; current Republican Ranking Member of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Appropriations Committee and State Representative Betty De Boef of Keokuk County; and Republican Lance Ehmcke, a well known attorney in Sioux City who served on Iowa’s Temporary Redistricting Advisory Commission helping redraw election district lines in Iowa.

Eichhorn, known as a thorough and detail-oriented legislator, served as House Chairman of the Administration and Regulation Appropriations Subcommittee, the committee responsible for the Secretary of State’s budget. He was a Member of the Appropriations, Judiciary, Ways and Means, Government Oversight, and Public Safety Standing Committees of the House. Eichhorn left the Legislature in 2007 when for the first time in more than 40 years Democrats were swept into power controlling the House and Senate chambers along with Governor’s office.

George Eichhorn’s name is pronounced I – Corn. A native of Davenport, he is a private practice attorney who has owned a law firm in Des Moines and served as a Legislator from rural Hamilton County. He has been married to his wife Shelly, originally from Perry, for more than 20 years.

This candidacy is like a poor man’s Glen R. Stine. Whichs reminds me of absolutely nothing at any time over at Al’s Saloon.

When was the last time Eichhorn actually won an election?

This is an extremely important office. Joseph Stalin said, “It’s not the votes that count; it’s who counts the votes.

Super wealthy, super liberal George Soros is funding a 527 group to make sure Democrats are kept in control of Secretary of State offices around the country.

Democrats must depend on fraud to win elections. They’re waiting to grant amnesty to 12-20 million illegals which will help create more permanent Democrat voters.

The last time George won a race was in 2004, but I don’t think that is really an issue. George would make a wonderful Secretary of State. George is a personal friend and I am excited that he wants to seek office to make our Republic better.
He also unlike Mauro doesn’t even have a hint of the CIETC scandal hiding in the closets.

This is a very important office, no question about that. I think its time to put our best candidate on the field and not necessarily make sure everyone gets a chance to play. Lets see, he lost his statehosue seat and then despite having every legislative endorsement managed to not raise any money and lost to a completely unknown and pennyless candidate in the U.S. Senate primary. How much embarrassment can one man stand?
Speaking of embarrassment, imagine my surprise over at Al’s Saloon when I learned my poor depth perception misled me into believing that some objects are larger than they actually appear. Nope. Not true. Giggidy giggidy goo!

More importantly Micheal is when was the last time he lost a race and was he on a losing streak? We should recruit Danny Carrol! Giggidy giggidy goo!

He lost narrowly in 2006, barely lost to another really close friend (Reed). Before that he was elected in House district 14 in 2000, reelected in House District 9 in 2002 and 2004. Like I said earlier he is close friend, and I knew he was talking about it a few months ago. Personally I like George, but the other candidate would do a better job than Mauro.

DVFO, while secretaries of state in other parts of the country invested in insecure touchscreen voting machines, Mike Mauro made sure every single county in Iowa would use paper ballots, which can be secured and recounted by machine or hand. By accusing him of facilitating fraud, you only reveal your own ignorance.

  • Deace voted for Obama wrote on 18 December, 2009, 19:04

I did not accuse Mauro of fraud but since you brought it up, it is common knowledge Democrats in general thrive on vote fraud to win elections.

George Soros is even funding a 527 called the SOS Project which is a made up of super-rich Democrats for the purpose of making sure that RATS elect as many Secretary of States as possible.

Stalin said: ” It’s not the votes that counts; it’s who counts the votes that counts.”

Why else would these fat cats be making sure RATS control as many SOS offices as possible?

Ever heard of ACORN, and SEIU? They along with illegals are part of the necessary ingredients to use to “win” elections. That and their trial lawyer buddies who swing into action when they’re a few votes shy and start to demand recounts.

It is always easy to make excuses – BUT in this case the facts are on Eichhorn’s side. 1. the local legislative loss came from a huge pile of cash dumped in from outside the state, outside liberal interest groups who came in at the last minute which had never happened before in that way. The Iowa GOP at that time didn’t respond fast enough. Eichhorn learned from that. Eichhorn’s Senate race was a simple result of getting in way too late, he only announced I think about six or eight weeks before the election. Pretty amazing results for a candidate that at that time no one knew. Since then he has been a champion for the party. His strong support from collegues is because the guy gets it – he understands what is going on. MORE IMPORTANTLY he is a STRONG conservative… unlike any of these other guys including the retread talk.

    IAConservative..

It wasn’t the Iowa GOP’s responsibility to run Eichorn’s legislative campaign…its his. If he had run a strong campaign, raised enough money..he wouldnt have had to worry about outside interests. Blaming state party is an EXCUSE.

Same with his US Senate campaign….its an excuse. Eichorn has demonstrated that running strong campaigns are not his forte.
