For the record, I am not running on any party ticket (third or otherwise.) I have been endorsed by America’s Independent Party, but they endorse candidates based on their principles — not party registration.

If Tom remains independent, then the committee would probably remaining nuetral, personally I am not looking for anyone before the filing deadline. But thank you for the question on wether or not we would nominate a person with an (R) just to fill it. And I could point that answer to our new by constitution which states” The purpose of the organization shall be to conduct, under one central organization, the activities of the Republican Party of Pocahontas County and to aid in every way the establishment of fundamentals of Republican principles and policies on a voluntary basis and to cooperate and assist in the conduct of national, state, and local elections in support of the conservative Republican ticket(s) and/or like values as deemed by the Pocahontas County Central Committee.” So this helps our committee to not help a liberal GOP at all if the committee chooses so. I thought the county Republican organization had endorsed Shaw in that race. Is that not true?

It was a perfectly valid question DVFO. I was not making an allegation, I was simply reversing the chronology of the events out in NY23. Shaw feels the Republican party left him, so he ran as an Independent, and the Republican party is looking for someone to run as a Republican. In NY23 Hoffman felt that the Republican party left him by nominating Scozzafava, therefor he ran as an Independent. Same scenario, just cause and effect are somewhat reversed. Additionally, I asked questions much more substantive than that one. Why did you decide to attack that one question and ignore the rest of them?

This question is beyond stupid–like the only choices are Shaw or a Scozzy. There could be other choices.

This whole scenario is like a bunch of amateurs playing politics.

MR – What do you intend to do as County Chairman as you approach the March 19th Filing Deadline. Will you be actively seeking another Republican Candidate? Do you feel it is your responsibility to have an (R) on the ballot in November? Would you and your Central Committee nominate a Scozzafava just to have an (R)?

This is where the rubber meets the road, where the Ideals vs Candidates debate is actually taking place. What do others think? Is Shaw a Republican inspite of his rejection of the name? Will he be allowed to vote with the Republican Caucus in the State House?

As for Steve Deace pulling the strings that is something you have to talk to Tom, Steve, and Bob about. Tom Shaw actually has knocked almost every towns doors and has gotten good name recognition. Tom is hoping to pull votes from all parties and some are willing to vote for right now. Tom is really involved with the Tea Party movement, So far no GOP candidate has emerged and hopefully Tom will run as a Republican, (it would make my job easier as Chairman). But as you know and as I am learning more and more, politics is a never say never situations (s) and seems to always throw unexpected drama. Until later, have a Happy Thanksgiving guys and gals.

We have two Toms here. I think you’re talking about Tom Shaw. Well, how stupid is Tom Shaw? Does he expect to win just with the votes of this so-called “Independent Party”? How many members are there in the distrcit? Maybe a dozen?

He has to be smart enough to know he needs votes of Republicans to get elected. BVP is pretty stupid for doing this, too. Does he really expect Republicans to support him for governor when he endorses someone running for an Iowa House seat on a third party ticket?

Wouldn’t it have been smarter to see if there is a real Republican running? He’s gotten himself into a box now, too.

Smells like Deace pulling the strings to me. Too bad Shaw allowed himself to be sucked in by Deace.

Just today VP sent out a press release scolding Branstad for helping Nelson of NE. I completely agree with VP’s criticism BUT VP has done something equally stupid by endorsing someone for the Iowa House who is not a Republican.

What if a Republican runs and Shaw and the Republican split the votes and allows the Dimocrat to get back in. What if the Republicans lose the majority by one seat? Thanks a lot, VP.

It’s time for some people to start thinking before they act.
