Democrats Show Just How Out of Touch they Really Are

democrat-logoFor months, Democrats nationwide have criticized Republicans for being the party of “no.” In his speech in Des Moines on Saturday night, Vice President Joe Biden continued that line of attack when he said, “I know what Republicans are against, but I honestly don’t know what they are for. What would they have done?”

While I’m sure than most of the Democrats at the Jefferson Jackson dinner nodded their heads in agreement with Biden, Republicans have offered ideas. It’s just that Biden and the Democrats refuse to entertain any ideas but their own. In regards to the healthcare debate, Republicans wanted to let families and businesses buy health insurance across state lines. Republicans also offered ideas that would have ended junk lawsuits that contribute to higher health care costs by increasing the number of tests and procedures that physicians sometimes order, not because they think it’s good medicine, but because they are afraid of being sued.

I find it ironic that with Democrats in Iowa and Washington in control every aspect of our government, their main talking point is that Republican are not offering solutions. But let’s be honest, they don’t want to consider the Republican ideas. Vice President Biden made that very clear on Saturday night when he said Democrats are not interested in incremental change or moving the margins. Instead, they want make monumental changes in the size and scope of government, just like President Johnson implemented with his Great Society initiatives. What is even more disturbing is that Democrats don’t even want to listen to the cries of the American people who oppose their leftward lurch.

The other thing that I learned from listening to Iowa Democrats and Vice President Biden on Saturday night was that everything that is wrong with this country was caused by President George W. Bush. Vice President Biden even said that Iowa’s fiscal mess was created by the Bush Administration, not the spending spree that Governor Culver and Iowa Democrats went on after taking over control of the state government. Unbelievable.

I’m proud that Republicans in Congress have said no to cap and trade, no to government run health care, and opposed a stimulus plan that did nothing but prop-up bloated state governments. I’m proud that Iowa Republicans stood in objection to Governor Culver and the Democrats’ proposals to raise taxes by eliminating federal deductibility and eliminate Iowa’s right-to-work status.

Vice President Biden and Iowa Democrats showed just how out-of-touch they are with the people of Iowa. While they continue to Bush-bash, label the Republicans as the party of no, and celebrate President Obama’s caucus and general election victory again, the people of Iowa are hurting, and all they have to offer is a more intrusive government.

Maybe they will wake up after next year’s elections.
