Palin’s Pals & Pics in the News Again

By Emily Geiger

Schmidt.Wallace.MaddowSo, I really wasn’t planning on writing about Sarah Palin again, but, after seeing some of the news coverage of the last 24 hours, I have to.

I pointed out yesterday what a hypocritical jacka$$ former top McCain aide Steve Schmidt is. I mean, it takes a special kind of stupid to say that someone is not qualified to be president when you are the one who picked her to be vice-president.

Now, another former McCain aide is at it, too. Nicolle Wallace (who, with Steve Schmidt, is believed to be one of the main sources for all of the Palin badmouthing going on at the end of the election season and shortly thereafter) recently made a public statement that Palin’s new book is “based on fabrications.”

And if anybody knows fabrications, it’s Nicolle.

But the real kicker of this whole story is where Nicolle decided to go to talk about how awful Sarah Palin is.

Think about it, what is the worst place a Republican political operative could go to badmouth other Republicans?

Yep, you guessed it. Nicolle gave her statements to MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show.”

Seriously?

Okay, so maybe Keith Olberman would be worse, but Maddow is a close second.

For that alone, little Nicolle should be blackballed from ever working in Republican politics again.

It’s kind of like the Dixie Chicks. You just don’t badmouth your own people to outsiders and expect to get away with it.

And, in case you haven’t already read 50 different opinions on it, for the record, Newsweek was TOTALLY out of line in printing the Runner’s World photo of Sarah Palin on its cover. Completely disrespectful and over the line. And please do not tell me they would ever do that to a Democrat, particularly a male Democrat.

Can’t you see it… Barack Obama shirtless with his glistening abs (jeez, I’m sounding like Kathie Obradovich) surrounded by a headline boldly stating:

“How do you solve a problem like Barack? He’s bad news for Democrats – and for everyone else, too.”

How do you think that would go over?

If you have ever listened Deace in the Afternoon you might have heard him say that the only people who hate christian conservatives more than Democrats, are Republicans. And after reading and commenting on posts on this site, I myself have seen that bear out.

So now we see a far left democrat team up with an establishment republican to bash what most consider a social conservative…shocking really, I just can’t believe it….oh wait, yeah I can

I’ve never heard or read it said, but I occasionally wonder which class is lower, the politicians themselves or the scumbags hired by the politicians?

She’s probably got wicked FACEBOOK skills, though.

Is it me or does Maddow look like a Sesame Street character in that picture above?

Are those eyeglasses hiding a unibrow?

I agree 100% with your observation. What moderates need to begin to understand is if the party moves center and elects a bunch of moderate republicans, they are actually moving the country left. Likely further than even the moderates want. After all if all you have is left and middle, the middle becomes the right.

I had a slip of tongue once and referred to Rachel Maddow as Rachel MADCOW and now it just always comes out that way.

Yikes. I’d forgotten about Chet being on the “most do-able” list. My, how times change.

Palin is right to be upset about the Newsweek cover, but let’s face it…. would we be even talking about Sarah Palin if she wasn’t a very good looking woman? If she looked like Janet Reno, none of us would have ever heard of her.

Her looks do make her an easy target for some to exploit in an attempt to keep people from taking her seriously. But the way she looks has helped her much more than it’s hurt. And she probably knows that.

So, what exactly is she supposed to do about that, ugly herself up? Sorry Tyler, but your statements are almost as derogatory as Newsweek’s picture.

Did Hillary get where she is because of her looks? Oh, wait, that was because of her husband. Okay, take Nancy Pelosi… did she get where she is because of her looks? Did Geraldine Ferraro get the Dem VP nomination because of her looks?

No, and neither did Palin. It did help that she was a new, fresh, (and yes, younger) face than John McCain, but let’s face it, that doesn’t take much.

It would be nice if you could acknowledge her accomplishments as governor of Alaska, including the sky high approval rating she had up until the nomination when the Dems from all across the country made it their mission to take her down.

This Palin fanaticism being displayed is rather perplexing. Her good looks help her popularity, but its not because of it. It IS because of her views, and the fact she bunches up liberals’ panties something awful. But, is that really much better than saying she got where she is because of good looks? It tells me conservative standards are so low, all you have to do is share the same social views and you have a shot at leadership. I don’t understand that. That should be the minimum qualfication. I’m as tired of political elitism as the next person, but I do demand the people I choose to represent me are smarter than I am, have a better grasp of international affairs, and be able to adequately answer such a complex question as “what do you read?”. Only the most deluded among us think Palin has the intellectual chops to hold office in the Executive. No one raises the same question about HIllary. I acknowledge Palin’s accomplishment to become governor of Alaska, although I don’t doubt her looks helped A LOT in that accomplishment. High approval as governor is a bit easier to achieve when you cut a $3,000 check to every citizen in your state. Alaskan citizens get an annual rebate from the oil companies already, Palin then raised taxes on the oil companies and turned around and gave the citizens another $1,200 for their yearly kickback. Its a great way to raise popularity, I wish I lived in Alaska to get a cut, but it doesn’t display her ability to tackle important problems. Conversely, it raises the prospect of criticism its such an obvious move at pandering.

So lets be real. Love her all you want, but we can’t let her go sniffing around the nomination in 2012. You can whine about media attacks, Dem attacks, etc., but other than her newfound celebrity, Alaska governor is as high as that star will shoot in the realm of politics. And if the height of your standards is that the candidate simply share your views, you get what you deserve. Go start your own conservative party because you’re bringing down the Republican brand with this ridiculous Palin fanaticism.
