I don’t have a lot of time to write today, so I’ll just mention a quick article I saw recently about a new health study.
The headline read, “Men more likely to leave spouse who has cancer.”
Apparently, the overall divorce rate for couples with one spouse facing life threatening cancer or multiple sclerosis is 12%, which is pretty close to the norm.
But, when you break it down by gender, the divorce rate is only 3% when the husband has cancer, but it is a whopping 21% when the wife gets a potentially fatal disease.
According to researchers, it seems that “men are less able to commit, on the spot, to being caregivers to a sick partner, while women are better at assuming such home and family responsibilities.”
Men have a commitment problem? Who could have predicted that one…
Doctors are debating whether to call this phenomenon “Newt Syndrome,” “Former Speaker Flight,” or “The Gingrich Scurry.”
Of course, this doesn’t take into account the guys that just cheat on their wives with cancer and don’t actually divorce them. That’s called the “John Edwards Jackass maneuver.”

Yes, both men are scumbag scoundrels of the first degree.
Emily, you are wearing thin. For just ONE day pls write where you don’t bash men directly or indirectly.
I can’t say I remember any man bashing here. Today, maybe, but at least there is scientific data to back it up.
Neither Newt Gingrich nor John Edwards are men. They are wimps. Sunnday – Kindly don’t degrade us Real Men out here that meant For Better or Worse, In Sickness and in Health, Until Death do us part.
Emily – interesting stats… pretty sad commentary on the state of “manhood” in our country isn’t it?
