It’s sad to see that we’ve spent 18 months making fun of Democrats for going for superficial qualities in their candidate (Obama), but yet we’re ready and willing to do the same.

Mr. Hawk,
Branstad did not help his cause at all Saturday night. His was by far the worst speech of the night. To make matters even worse was the fact that this was billed as his “coming out party”. It was extremely painful to watch this legendary governor go through that. He needs to do better in the coming months if he wants to have a chance at the nomination. In my opinion the best speech of the night belonged to Christopher Rants.He was very articulate and to the point. In addition he pointed out exactly what was wrong with the Republican Party over the last several years. Republicans talked a good game but didn’t follow through.

Mr. Hawk, I don’t think Branstad “moved further ahead” of any of the other candidates this past Saturday night. In fact, I think he lost a few people in the crowd. I think Branstad was sleeping during T-Paw’s “Let’s get fired up and fight back” speech. It is okay for people to comment on this site about the “official entry” into the race by former Gov. Branstad. If he gave and delivered an excellent speech I’m sure comments would be different. I would say, “Hey they were right, Branstad is fired up and got back into politics to change this state.” However, it seemed like Branstad gave a forced speech. He didn’t feel comfortable, and that is why I believe he was talked into running for governor.

One lousy speech means very little at this point. There’s a long way to go and Branstad retired being well liked.

It is too bad we have all these good candidates and only one is going to prevail. It would be best if some would stay in the legislature where they’re needed instead of risking being sent back to their districts and doing whatever it was that they were doing before. We need all of them.

What I love about this site is the the further ahead Branstad moves, the more nuts the BVP folks around here will become. It’ll going to be great entertainment for me. Likewise for Deace’s show.

Dude, just take your lumps. Your guy was awful, just accept it and put it behind you and hope for better days.

Branstad was ATROCIOUS Saturday night!

Seriously. If you haven’t seen the video of the speeches, watch it.

Awkward pauses after laugh lines and applause lines where nobody laughed or applauded. Jumbled words and “stroke moments” where you thought for a second he might just drop over right there on the spot. Not to mention that he essentially read his speech.

After all this talk about Team Romney heading to Branstad’s corner, it’s looking more like Team Fred Thompson … a complete dud.

I expected more and was completely shocked.

Did you all see the speeches on CSPAN.com? Behn, Roberts, Rants, Fong, And BVP wiped the floor and rung out the water on Terry Branstad. I thought everyone said he is a great campaigner. I almost felt bad for Branstad, especially the line where he said some people don’t think he could come back after all these years, and then he stumbled over the lines. I had my hands over my eyes. If you are a Branstad supporter, give him advice! He is rusty.

I’m not sure who I’d vote for today either, but between BVP and Branstad(or most of the rest of the field for that matter) it’s a no-brainer! (Actually, come to think of it, I’d have to lose my brain completely to vote for BVP!)
