Does Rants represent Crawford and Ida counties?

  • Mr. Truth wrote on 4 November, 2009, 16:10

Stacia, is that where Sioux City is? Right area code, wrong zip code.

  • Timmy wrote on 4 November, 2009, 19:17

Craig, nice story. Please forgive me, however I’m gonna pee on your parade just a bit. As much as this is encouraging for the conservatives, we are talking about the right ventricle of the 5th district(is Sioux Co. the Aorta???) probably the most conservative Congressional District in the country(I’m not knocking it, I’m proud to be from there!).

When you have results from a population center such as Polk, Linn, Black Hawk, or even Des Moines, Dubuque, Wapello, Webster or Worth, then we may start to see the true indicators of where the candidates may play out. Thanks for keeping us posted though!!!

BVP should be concerned that even in his own “backyard” so to speak…he can’t pull above 35% in a straw poll…

  • Peggy wrote on 4 November, 2009, 22:49

Well, really it was Rod Roberts’ “backyard” and no more BVP’s backyard than Rants’.

  • HawkCR1 wrote on 5 November, 2009, 9:48

    Peggy…

Sounds like an excuse to me. BVP’s been running for Governor for nearly 10 years…being from nearby Sioux City, there’s no excuse that BVP couldn’t pull more than what he did in this straw poll. If BVP wants to win this nomination, he’s going to have to do BETTER than this in his backyard. Merely splitting the vote with Rants isn’t going to do the job.

  • Peggy wrote on 5 November, 2009, 11:05

    Hawk,

    You sound paranoid.

  • Peggy wrote on 5 November, 2009, 11:09

Or maybe you’re offering your political skills to help BVP pull in more support?

  • HawkCR1 wrote on 5 November, 2009, 13:10

LOL.. I’m not paranoid at all.. I’m merely pointing out reality. With two candidates from the heart of Steve King country….BVP is going to have to do better than just splitting the vote w Rants in Western Iowa to have any shot at winning the GOP nomination.

Again..BVP’s been running virtually non-stop for nearly 10 years. He can’t say that he’s the “new guy” in the mix anymore. Yet, he still hasn’t been able to generate the kind of excitement and/or enthusiasm you would expect from a “front runner”.

Come January 19th…if his fundraising numbers don’t show him with at least 750,000 cash on hand at MINIMUM…he’s in serious trouble.

  • Timmy wrote on 5 November, 2009, 16:51

If anything, it would seem that BVP doesn’t have a lock on the socons that some would like us to believe. If anything, it seems to me they should be supporting Roberts anyway as he is the more credible candidate on those issues.

  • Dawson Jeff wrote on 9 November, 2009, 9:13

Wow Bob did great…. Yea That would be in Roberts backyard.

  • HawkCR1 wrote on 9 November, 2009, 9:26

    Jeff..

No..BVP did NOT do great here. If BVP wants to start cementing himself as a front runner..he needs to demonstrate that he can pull more than 35% in these “straw polls”. 35% is the magic number that a candidate is going to have to pull in the primary to become the nominee.

If the primary breaks this way come June next year…the GOP nomination gets thrown to the State Convention….and if that happens…you’re going to see all sorts of chaos.

  • Peggy wrote on 9 November, 2009, 9:53

Bring on the chaos! Maybe Iowans will wake up.

  • HawkCR1 wrote on 9 November, 2009, 10:33

Oh really…so are you prepared for a potential backroom deal that keeps your candidate from the nomination, Peggy?

Because that is EXACTLY what happens in those situations…not to mention that would like fracture the party so badly, there would be little hope of unifying our forces to get Culver out in November.

No one likes backroom deals…especially when it involves who a candidate will be. All you have to do is look at NY-23 and see what happened.

  • Peggy wrote on 9 November, 2009, 10:39

    Hawk,
I believe we’re already living the backroom deal.

  • HawkCR1 wrote on 9 November, 2009, 10:47

Oh really now Peggy…. so there’s just all these shadowy figures telling every county central committee who they’ll be voting for come June.

You sound like a loon saying something like that Peggy.

  • Peggy wrote on 9 November, 2009, 11:20

    Hawk,

You alone can’t stop pointing out to us how BVP’s straw poll win at the Crawford-Ida Counties’ event was a farce.

Just relax and let the campaign run its course – you’re trying to hard to make it look like a lock for your boy Branstad.

  • HawkCR1 wrote on 9 November, 2009, 12:05

I didnt say it was a farce….Don’t try putting words in my mouth, Peggy.. you’re only making yourself an even bigger fool.

Go back and ready what I said…I clearly stated that BVP should have done FAR better than 33% in a straw poll in his own backyard. If BVP wants to have any hope of winning this nomination, he needs to be separating himself from the rest of the field…

Clearly, he’s not doing that. I’ll type this again Peggy so you dont have to go back and re-read it. With two candidates from the heart of Steve King country….BVP is going to have to do FAR better than just splitting the Western Iowa vote with Rants in order to win the primary

Once again, Pegster..BVP is not generating the type of enthusiasm that you’d see out of a “front runner” status candidate. The guy has been running for Governor for nearly 10 years…quite frankly, he should be walking away with this race, Peggy….instead, he’s struggling on a daily basis to keep himself from being defined as a single issue candidate.

The sad part is, Peg…is that BVP has done all the damage to his campaign himself..he has no one else to blame for it.

  • Peggy wrote on 9 November, 2009, 12:38

    Hawk,

Why do you keep insisting that the Crawford-Ida event was ONLY in BVP’s backyard? Roberts actually represents the eastern portion of Crawford County and Sioux City is closer to Ida Grove than Orange City is.

Your desire to see TEB as the nominee has hampered your ability to tell the truth, and your fear of a potential BVP primary win is palpable. Let it go, dude.

  • Mr. Hawk wrote on 9 November, 2009, 13:38

I have no fear of a BVP primary win because it has a 0% chance of occurring.

  • HawkCR1 wrote on 9 November, 2009, 14:10

Peggy…keep up the equivocating….You haven’t answered a single point that I brought up.

If you’re been running for Governor for 10 years..and you can’t get more than 33% in a straw poll in your area…you’re in deep trouble.

As I stated, BVP should be walking away with this race….instead, he’s struggling to keep up and stay relevant.

  • Deace voted for Obama wrote on 9 November, 2009, 14:12

Mr. Hawk, why are you so sure VP will not get the nomination?

  • Peggy wrote on 9 November, 2009, 14:40

“….instead, he’s struggling on a daily basis to keep himself from being defined as a single issue candidate.” — HawkCR1

Only because folks like you insist on painting him as one.

  • Peggy wrote on 9 November, 2009, 14:45

I’ll say this one more time. Compared to Roberts and Rants, the Crawford-Ida event wasn’t really BVP’s “area.”

Come down from your Johnson County tower, study western Iowa on a map, and get your facts straight.

  • Mr. Hawk wrote on 9 November, 2009, 16:48

“Mr. Hawk, why are you so sure VP will not get the nomination?

    - Because I posses probably the greatest political mind within our State’s borders.
