Sarah Palin Will Not Attend IFPC Event in Iowa

Palin in IowaTheIowaRepublican.com has learned that Sarah Palin will not be coming to Iowa to headline an event for the Iowa Family Policy Center. Plain would have liked to have attended the event, but her schedule precluded it from happening.

If Palin had attended, she would have sold a lot of books, gained a ton of publicity, and cemented herself as a top contender for the 2012 Iowa caucuses. Now after building anticipation of a Biden vs. Palin showdown along the banks of the Des Moines River, the Iowa Family Policy Center must find a new top-line speaker for its event. The void that Palin’s absence creates could provide an opportunity for another presidential hopeful to fill in.

As for Palin, the drama that seems to follow her around continues. While she is loved by the base of the Republican Party, she is loathed by the media. By not being able to make the IFPC event work, Palin has missed out on a tremendous opportunity in Iowa. In politics, timing is everything.

Everything seemed to line up for Palin and IFPC, but that kind of opportunity doesn’t happen every day. She will now have to find new opportunities to introduce herself to Republican caucus goers in the state should she decide to run. Likely, many potential caucus goers would have came to see her in Des Moines. Now, she will have to travel around the state like everyone else.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Below is the IFPC Press Release

10/30/09 Pleasant Hill, IA – Iowa Family Policy Center ACTION received word this morning that Governor Sarah Palin is unable to accept our speaking invitation due to her book tour contractual commitments, which cannot be changed.

We extended our invitation knowing she would be in the middle of her book tour and the chances of her being able to accept any invitations were extremely slim.

She has asked if she could speak at a future mutually agreeable date. She will not accept any fees for her appearance.

    Pity.

I sooooo drooled over the prospect of “VP Smackdown II–Des Moines”. Absolutely no doubt that Mrs. Palin would outdraw Jittery Joe Biden, in the same town on the same night. IFPC would get higher attendance and more money by an ex-governor as speaker than the Iowa Democrat Party would draw from the U.S. Vice President. Yet more evidence that IFPC has joined the front rank of political organizing strength for conservatives here in Iowa, with RPI (RIP?), ICA, ITA…. (Full disclosure: Chuck Hurley & I have campaigned together since 1988; Go Chuck)

A foolish decision by the Palin camp. A Palin appearance in Iowa, shortly after her book’s release…it would have guaranteed major media coverage and as Craig deftly put it..put her squarely in the thick of things for 2012.

This gives the perfect opportunity for someone like Mike Huckabee, Tim Pawlenty, Bobby Jindal, etc to make a major appearance in Iowa shortly after the kickoff to the 2010 elections..

When opportunity knocks…you run with it….Palin has fumbled a golden opportunity….

    Aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

We were so pumped to make the trip to see Sarah.

This would’ve been an awesome evening – especially with the “Say it ain’t so” Joe Biden factor. Oh well, I guarantee IFPC succeeded in scaring the poop out of the Iowa Dems, who after the past 10 months probably don’t have much poop in them to lose!

I hope TIR and the media will keep us abreast of Palin’s future visit … the silver lining being that, while she can’t make it this time, she’s already offered to come back at a “mutually agreed upon date”.

Good for IFPC!! Keep standing strong behind true conservatives and their values!

I was not aware there was a competition as to which group is the dominant political group here in Iowa. There are many Iowa Republicans who give time and money to all these groups so what is the point in trying to elevate one group as more important than another–especially RPI?

Your candidates are going to go nowhere without a strong RPI.

We need a strong RPI and we’ve become much stronger. We need to work together to defeat Dims–not each other.

Yes a missed opportunity, but it sounds like she will come and work with IFPC so that would be great.

The disaster that is her very legacy continues unabated. She is her own worst enemy and has done more to hurt herself than any of her enemies could have planned if they were omnipotent.

I wouldn’t go as far as calling this a “foolish decision” by the Palin camp. Sure, TEApublican and I would be willing to headline the IFPC fundraiser on less than 30 days notice (TEA, if you can line this up, call me: it would be EPIC), but is it realistic to assume that Sarah Palin can find time in her schedule to come to Iowa on a month’s notice approximately 4 days after the national release of her first book?
I don’t think there’s anything nefarious here on the part of the IFPC. They took a chance and sent the invitation. If they can get Sarah to come at some time in the future, it will be a positive event for all concerned.

Let’s not confirm all the national stereotypes by crapping all over anyone who won’t drop EVERYTHING on their events calendar and fly to Iowa to address “the most important voters in America”, mmmmKay? She’s made other commitments, so let her honor them and she’ll come to visit us soon enough.

And waywardson? You just carry on. I’m sure there will be peace……….when you’re gone.

This is crazy. You people are blaming talibimbo for not coming, when the real villian here is the dildo who anounced this non-event and got your hopes up over nothing.

Think about it for a minute; the spokesman for this group suffered a somewhat premature release of his excitement. Poor fellow needs to go back to phone-bank boiler-room style volunteer work till his wisdom quotient catches up with his enthusiasm.

Conservative Democrat (a bit of an oxymoron) Why do you read/post on the Iowa REPUBLICAN? You are welcome but nobody takes you seriously when you have that kind of a screen name. It is kind of laughable. Oh well, good for humor.

Mr. English a respectable writer and does a very good job. Someone leaked that Team Sarah was asked to help in the fundraising efforts and the speculation started. At that point, he only told the facts, IFPC action extended an invitation and she had the ball in her court. What is so bad about that? English was working well within the parameters of his job. Good Job Bryan!

I am writing off topic, since I know most of the people on here do not watch the colbert report, you are not aware that the US Speed skating team lost its primary sponsor and is scrabling for funds. Colbert has stepped in to help fundraise for them. I know many of you probably don’t like him, but this is a good patriotic cause I thought everyone could get behind. You can go to colbertnation or the US speed skating cite to make a donation.
