I saw two different news stories yesterday that literally made pause and say, “What the hell?”
Apparently, Levi Johnston, the immature high school dropout ex-boyfriend of Sarah Palin’s oldest daughter, Bristol, is making the media rounds (again).
This time, he was a featured guest on NBC’s Today Show. Why, you ask? To talk about the reason why his would-be (but-now-never) mother-in-law resigned as governor of Alaska.
I’m sure he really knows a lot about it since he broke up with Bristol months ago. I’m sure Sarah still calls him up and discusses her career options and political strategies with him.
What are these “news” people thinking?
Ann Curry sat there and interviewed this guy with a straight face. She pretty much glossed over ol’ Levi’s motives (i.e. that he wants a modeling deal, his own book deal, and possibly his own TV show). Good grief. Al Roker did a tougher interview with Speidi when they got kicked off of “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here.”
Well, I guess you gotta earn some money to bail your drug dealing momma out of jail somehow.
The other story that made me do a double take yesterday was the Iowa (not-so) Independent’s story about how a pro-life Cedar Rapids organization, The Coalition for Life, is fighting with the IRS over qualifying as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
Don’t get me wrong. This is a very news-worthy story. I just find it odd that a pro-life charity and a pro-life legal foundation would give stories and quotes for a news article to a flaming liberal website for a story written by Lynda Waddington, a militant pro-abortion advocate, who won’t even denounce late-term abortions because she writes all the time about having had one herself.
Either the Iowa Independent is not being honest with The Coalition for Life about their extreme pro-abortion agenda, or some IRS source is leaking Coalition for Life correspondence that one would think probably isn’t public at this point.
But I just can’t imagine that a liberal news organization that lies to the public and claims to be “independent” would lie about their liberal pro-choice agenda. [End sarcasm.]

Em, really aren’t you able to see the irony of the Levi thing?
Levi would be unheard-of today except that Palin thrust (I damn-well bet against his will) him onto the American stage as a prop backdrop for her image-creating gig. She _MADE_ him a celeb, much to her chagrin as time went on and the shotgun wedding fell apart.
So to a profit driven private business (standard repub values there) pop culture morning magazine show, Levi makes good sense as a guest.
