Getting to know Gabe…

gabeWe are still in the process of making some changes to the “Our Army Life Blog,” but I hope many of you click on the links to see what Gabe is up to. The only reason Americans have the freedoms that we do is because of people like Gabe who put freedom’s cause above all else.

Gabe is an Army Infantry officer training in Ft. Benning, Georgia for the next eight months. First will be the Basic Officer Leader Course II (BOLC II), followed by the Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course (IBOLC) and finally Ranger School.

Gabe recently posted this on his blog. If you ever wanted to know what it would be like to jump out of Chinook helicopter, over Camp Dodge near Des Moines you will want to watch the videos.

From Gabe’s latest entry:

Next week is week 7 of IBOLC (Infantry Basic Officer Leadership Course), more than half-way done! It’s surprising how quickly this course is flying by. I’ll be very busy this upcoming week and so I won’t have much time to post. However, I’ll leave you with some jump videos I took when I was part of the now defunct 194th Infantry Detachment (LRS) (ABN).

This first video is the shortest one, taken around May of 2007 from a CH-47 Chinook jump:

This second video is much longer but well worth the wait. It’s also a Chinook jump, but this time I had my digital camera strapped to my chest strap as I exited the helicopter which made for some great videography. If you want to skip all the jump commands and get to the good stuff, fast-forward to the 3:00 minute mark.

About the Author

Our Army Life has written 5 stories on this site.

My name is Gabe, and I’m an Army officer headed to training in Ft. Benning, Georgia for the next eight months. First will be the Basic Officer Leader Course (BOLC), followed by the Infantry Officer Basic Course (IOBC) and then the much feared Ranger School. While I’m gone, I’ll be keeping a journal of my experiences, and my wife Carolyn will do the same, as the rigorous schedule does not allow us to live together for much of the training time. We hope to capture the joys and challenges of “Our Army Life” and do our part to bring attention to the sacrifice that Army families make.
