Chris McGonegle, lifelong resident of Fort Dodge, announced today his intentions to seek election to the Iowa Senate in district 25 as a Republican. The district covers most of Webster County, including Fort Dodge, all of Calhoun County, and all of Greene County and is currently held by Democrat State Senator Daryl Beall.
McGonegle said today, “I am working to be your next state senator because I believe the people need to have their voice better represented in the Iowa Senate. The Iowa budget is out of control and has a $161 million deficit. I believe growing government is not the answer to a better Iowa. Iowa needs leaders who are ready to make the tough decisions on how to get Iowa moving forward again. I believe in a limited government, reducing the tax burdens on all Iowans, and holding our elected officials accountable for how our tax dollars are being spent. I am here to listen to you and look forward to working together to help our government make the same tough decisions each family and small business must make on a daily basis.”
Matt Strawn, Chairman of the Republican Party of Iowa, stood beside McGonegle as he announced his candidacy for the Iowa Senate. Strawn said, “Chris McGonegle is a fantastic candidate for this district and he will help get Iowa back on the right track. For too long the answer to problems has been that government will fix it. We are all here today because we know government does not hold the answers, we the people, have the answers. I am excited to have another Republican candidate step forward wanting to positively affect the future of Iowa.”
McGonegle continued, “Just over 233 years ago our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence pledging their lives, fortunes, and honor to set forth the new United States of America. Would they recognize their, now our, country today? Government takes nearly 50% of each paycheck through taxes and fees. We must return to the principles of a limited government and I am ready to go to the Iowa Capitol to stand up first for you, the over-taxed and over-regulated taxpayer.”
Chris McGonegle, and his wife Kelley, are graduates of St. Edmond High School and members of Holy Trinity Parish in Fort Dodge. Chris, age 30, attended Iowa Central Community College and is now a self-employed subcontractor with Keigher’s Flooring in Fort Dodge. Kelley is a graduate of Iowa State University. The McGonegle’s have two children; Ryan, age 6, and Kara, age 3. They reside in Fort Dodge.
