Somebody Needs to Tell Mark Sanford to Shut the Hell Up

By Emily Geiger

I read an article yesterday morning about Sanford’s spiritual mentor, Warren “Cubby” Culbertson, who gave an interview to the AP about the whole Sanford debacle.

He was very forthcoming, but when the reporter asked if he’d ever met Sanford’s mistress, he had no comment. Which means the answer to that question is a definite yes.

My first thought was, under what possible circumstanced would that happen?

Then another article filled in the gaps. It seems that when his wife discovered a letter he had written to his mistress five months ago, Sanford took his buddy Cubby with him as a chaperone to New York so that he could break up with the mistress. Apparently, they all went to church together and then had dinner together… weird.

But as we all know, Sandford didn’t really cut it off then. He not only continued to lie to his wife, he lied to Cubby, too, which is why Cubby got a personal apology during the infamous press conference.

So, back to Sanford. It’s now also come out that he lied during his infamous press conference about how often he met up with his mistress. So, if he was lying to us about that during his “apology,” why should I believe that he’s really sorry? Well, I don’t actually believe that.

Why don’t I believe that? Um, maybe because he told the AP during a two day interview that “he would die ‘knowing that I had met my soul mate.’”

He also admitted, “There were a handful of instances wherein I crossed the lines I shouldn’t have crossed as a married man [with other women besides the mistress], but never crossed the ultimate line.” Uh, huh.

Stanford also admitted that his relations with his mistress “was a whole lot more than a simple affair, this was a love story. A forbidden one, a tragic one, but a love story at the end of the day.”

Here’s where that little tip about shutting the hell up comes into play.

You’ve already hurt your wife tremendously. Now you’re going to tell the world that the other woman is your soul mate and the subject of a great love story? Twist the knife a little more why don’t you?

What a self-centered, narcissistic, jerk-off.

The guy has no future in politics, not just because he’s a low-life scumbag, but because he’s a moron about the fact that he’s a low-life scumbag, and he just can’t stop telling the world about what a low-life scumbag he is.

This should be done and over with. Please let’s stick a fork in it and move on.

Oh Gov. Sanford, if love only meant never having to say “I’m sorry!” You screwed up royally and your rambling press conference apology and subsequent statements have made you look like you are not fit to lead anything, let alone a state. When the GOP needs strong, clear-headed leaders, you managed to fumble the ball. You should be benched. When it comes to love stories, you are no Oliver Barrett IV. Nobody needs to hear more from you or about you.

This guy has it bad. The honorable thing to do is to resign and fade off into the sunset.

Agreed. Luckily for the GOP, this stuff came out NOW..rather than in the middle of a Presidential campaign. The sad part here is that this guy had potential. His refusal to take stimulus funds raised his profile considerably…and the fact he came from an early Pres primary state also played in his favor…

However, he chose to let his other head make the stupid decisions that have doomed him as a candidate in the GOP.

Personally, I think sanford is having a mid life crises meltdown. He sounds like someone who has been in therapy trying to “find himself” Can’t help but notice that everything he says is about “him”, “me”, “I”. How self absorbed can one be. Can’t believe I am saying this, but I agree with emily, he needs to just shut up and go away.

And just a few months ago this guy was being deified by the Party-of-No because he made noise about refusing his state’s portion of the stimulus funds.

Yup, nailed it. Even provided links.

Party of No huh Demo…. What has your party done so far?? The Porkulus Bill has been a failure in creating jobs…we’re well on our way to double digit unemployment..when less than a year ago we were below 5%….

Obama has managed in less than 6 months to add 9 TRILLION…that with a T…TRILLION dollars onto our national deficit….he’s starting to see his polling numbers fall…and Congressional approval ratings are still in the toilet…

You guys can’t keep on saying you “inherited” this stuff… You guys have controlled Congress since 06..and now have the Presidency as well..and increasingly, Americans are starting to put the blame directly on Democrats shoulder’s for our country’s continued economic problems..

my wife just called, said more of sanford’s interview being released with more of his crap. He would have been better served by saying no to maria then to the stimulus money for SC.

Hawk, this problem started before 06, and it is the republican’s mess. Bush started the bailouts. Good God, the republicans were blaming clinton for their problems well into 08, but the second Obama takes over, everything is on him. What a bunch of hypocrites.

timmy, I would agree, but this idiot sanford just keeps talking and digging the hole deeper and prolonging the story. The fork needs to be stuck in his mouth.
