Iran

It appears that some of the ruling clerics are standing up to those who have taken the position that the recent Iranian election results are legitimate. That’s the good news.

The bad news is that the families of those clerics who are taking a stand against Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his supporters are being arrested in an effort to intimidate them into silence.

But, this, in my opinion, is still progress. I’m amazed at the courage of those putting their lives on the line to bring about change in their country.

Missouri

A neo-Nazi group in Missouri has decided to take part in the state’s Adopt-a-highway program.

The local chapter of the National Socialist Movement has signed up to help keep a portion of a highway clean of litter. In recognition of their volunteer efforts, this group has two signs posted thanking them for their efforts.

Now for the good part.

The Missouri governor is getting ready to sign a transportation bill that will, among other things, rename the portion of the highway that the neo-Nazis keep clean as the “Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel Memorial Highway” in honor of a rabbi who narrowly escaped the Nazis in World War II and later marched with Martin Luther King Jr.

That’s gotta make you smile

Flynt

Apparently Larry Flynt was rushed to the hospital over the weekend with unknown health problems.

Flynt (in case you’ve been living under a rock for the last 30 years) is a high-profile producer and distributor of hard-core, highly derogatory porn.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

hypocrisy 101 rears its ugly head again. you’re happy that a man was rushed to the hospital ? seriously that’s demented. larry may be a left wing nut, but should we really be glad he is in the hospital. just last week were you not crying about Sarah Palin’s daughter ? do you not see your own hypocrisy in making such a stupid comment ?

It doesn’t sound like anybody did anything to Flynt. This guy is as low of scum as they come. If nature takes its course and his total depravity is stopped, I don’t think many people are going to lose sleep over that.

This is totally different than the Palin situation where someone was being intentionally trying to hurt young girls.

You should be acting like a Christian and praying for this man. Only God can judge him, not you. I remember reading something about “let he without sin cast the first stone…”

Or do you simply bend the scripture to your will when it suits you?

Yes, all life is precious, but not all life is innocent. Else, I’m sure you really fretted over the deaths of Hitler, Saddam, Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, etc.

I will be sad if this man dies without repenting. But I won’t be sad that his perversion and the sickness and violence that comes from it will stop.

Nothing wrong with that statement. I agree with you completely.

No, I didn’t feel bad at all. But I’m not religious either. Either way, if you believe in Christianity, you know that God could forgive all of those men if they sincerely repented and they could all be up in Heaven right now.

A faithful Christian (in my view) would try to put an end to their evil ways, but not end their lives. Again, that is only something for one’s creator to decide, and only their creator can judge them. Christians know this, and it is a principle point of their belief.

yet today that same person is now ( I’m sure tongue in cheek ) cheering for the deteriorating health of someone on the other side of the political fence.

it reminds me of the old bit about what is funny. if you fall into a open manhole that’s funny, if i fall in its a tragedy.

How many rapes did Flynt contribute to with his violent and degrading pictures? Ask any cop who has investigated rapists. They all have porn, lots of it, and it usually of the violent/degradation type.

I actually started once to read the government’s official report on pornography, which described in detail some of the photos found in Hustler, and it was disturbing enough that I changed my research topic.

If this health scare has any effect on limiting this type of materials, I’m okay with that, and you should be too. Your wives and girlfriends will be safer for it.

I think everyone would do well to first try to understand the other viewpoints before immediately pouncing. Knee-jerk reactions do nothing to promote understanding.

I didn’t say that. You are calling out the wrong commenter. I called them on the hypocrisy of being glad for someone’s misfortune. Unless my King James Bible is a draft version, I don’t remember Jesus advocating for anything like this in the New Testament.

I’m merely holding them to the standard they have set for themselves. Live a Christ-like life. Cheering misfortune would not be the way, regardless of how horrible a person behaves. As I said, Christians believe only God has the right to pass judgement on someone.

Not true. Just holding you to your beliefs. I thought Christians were supposed to love everyone. Even embrace their enemies. Didn’t I read that somewhere……

Looking at my King James Bible:
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous” (Matthew 5:43-45).

Jesus set the example for Christians by praying for those who were crucifying Him.

“Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23:24).

So, as a Christian, you should pray for Larry Flynt. I’m not a Christian, so I can hope hell exists so he can go there to burn. But since I don’t believe in that, I hope he is punished on earth. Remember, you claim to be the compassionate ones. Not me.

So, here’s your opportunity. What prayer for his survival and swift recovery have you been using? Please post so other Christians can pray for Larry as well.

I’m essentially making you publicly pray for unapologetic pornographer (among other things). It’s not my place, nor of any consequence to me.
