Feenstra for State Treasurer

feenstra1Word on the street is northwest Iowa State Senator Randy Feenstra is seriously considering running for State Treasurer against Michael Fitzgerald.

Senator Feenstra was the Hull city manager before being elected to Sioux County Treasurer. He was first elected to the Iowa Senate last year and has been actively trying to raise his profile ever since. He’s taken the lead on marriage and spearheaded the effort against the Democrats’ plan to change the way Iowa is represented in the Electoral College. He may be best known by his pro-marriage speech he offered on the floor of the Senate 10 days after the marriage ruling. The following is an excerpt of that speech:

“I, along with the rest of the freshman, are the future leaders of this Senate.  Freshman of both parties, it is time we lead on this issue!  Let’s stand up for the people of Iowa.  Let’s remember the preamble of the Iowa constitution that states ’we the people’ not ’we the Court.’ Let’s not act like previous generations that stood silent on critical issues.  It’s time to rise up!”

Feenstra is a somewhat rare breed. He’s one who is dedicated to conservatism but at the same time is like Rants, definitely driven by advancing his political career. He is a strong fiscal and social conservative with some great ideas for Iowa.

One of the most challenging aspects of running for State Treasurer in Iowa is raising money. Since the governor’s race gets all the attention, we often ignore other statewide contests. Feenstra is well connected in northwest Iowa, where there is quite a bit of money to be had, but will definitely have to step up his fundraising in Des Moines and eastern Iowa to beat Fitzgerald.

Feenstra is a hard worker who will have no problem putting in long hours to get those extra votes. He’ll easily be able to travel the state piggy-backing on gubernatorial and congressional events. He comes off as an articulate, professional, young businessman who will tell you how he sees it without being disrespectful to those on the other side.

Bottom line, his candidacy is good for Iowa. Now if we can start registering more Republicans to catch up to the Democrats, we have a shot at winning this seat.

    CD,

Have you heard of any other possible candidates for Treasurer yet?
I have heard the rumor that Story County Treasurer Dave Jamison is contemplating a run at it.

“One of the most challenging aspects of running for State Treasurer is raising money.” One of the most challenging aspects of BEING State Treasurer is MANAGING money! I know it’s good to point out his pro-family creds, but I want to know more about his business and financial experience if I am going to consider supporting his candidacy. Con Daily, this isn’t meant as a slight against you and your article, I just really want to know more about what would qualify him for the job of State Treasurer.

Check out how Sioux County is doing…

I’ve been there many times, it is thriving and an abberation compared to the rest of the state. Last time I checked it was 82% registered Republican voters, is that still true? My question is what has he done in the private sector?

Randy Feenstra would make a good candidate for treasurer, but calling him a businessman is a little like calling Chet Culver a businessman because he is the governor. They are alike in that they have both worked exclusively in public sector jobs. That shouldn’t disqualify Randy from being a good treasurer candidate, though.

Wow…the idiocy of the people on this blog never ceases to amaze me! Do any of you really know how to do a google search???

Let’s see here…Randy served 7 years as the head of sales for the Foreign Candy Company in Hull. Impressive position and very much a private-sector operation. He has also served as the SIOUX COUNTY TREASURER. So you idiots…he has already served as a county treasurer – a microcasm of the job he is being rumored for. In addition, he has served as a city administrator. Therefore, I just want to make it clear…if you people would actually do a little research…this site would be more worthwhile. Idiots everywhere.

Mr. Madison and Randy – sorry I didn’t google first. Good to know that Randy has a business background. Didn’t think he was old enough to have one. And he has been an impresive state senator with a great blog and a county treasurer, both of which also counts.. Signed Anonymous the idiot.

    anonymous,

it’s Ms. Madison not Mr. Madison. Secondly, please actually do some research next time before spouting off with your nonsense. As you can see from looking at Feenstra’s website, he has an impressive record and impressive resume.

Too many idiots on this site.

Running for a state wide office does require serious campaigning skill. Even though his resume seems fitting, you need to look at how contested the elections Sen. Feenstra has been part of. He did not have an opponent in the primary or general for his current role as State Senator. He did not have a challenge for County Treasurer. He is a smart guy, but he does not really have any election experience which could prove to hurt his chances.

anonymous…”didn’t know he was old enough to have one”?

Isn’t Randy about 40ish? People in their late 30’s or early 40’s aren’t old enough to have business experience? I learn something new from this site every day.

Madison: I apologize, not only for not having the time to Google everyone featured on this website, but also for a possible insinuation that Randy’s youthfulness casts aspersions on his ability. The intent of my comment was not in any way to suggest that Randy was too young or inexperienced. All I meant was that since he is young and has served for a while in city positions in Hull, in Sioux County and the General Assembly that I made the mistake from his youthfulness that this was the extent of his professional background. I am more than willing to continue to call myself an Idiot, but hopefully this explanation shows why I don’t speak nonsense. Signed Anonymous the Idiot.
