Deace’s Take: Paul McKinley

deace1Of all the people on this mock ballot, McKinley’s candidacy is the least plausible.

That’s because McKinley managed to do something that is nearly impossible for a Republican leader with any shrewdness whatsoever to do: get caught with your pants down on a social issue while in the minority.

Usually Republican leaders sell out their Christian conservative base after that base works tirelessly to make the majority, not while in the minority. On the other hand, as a minority party Republicans are often the most principled politicians in the world. So for McKinley to get caught in his first go around as Republican State Senate Leader with his pants down by not having a marriage amendment on file for the 2009 legislative session is either total incompetence, the worst clerical error in the history of the office, or the most cynical brand of politics.

And no matter what McKinley says to the contrary, he’s simply not being honest by asserting there was no way to suspend the rules in the senate to pursue a vote on a marriage amendment like what was done in the house. (See here)

Of course, the one plausible reason McKinley continues to maintain this untruthful position is because without having a marriage amendment filed this legislative session, it obviously wouldn’t be possible to force a procedural vote on a bill that didn’t exist.

A cynic might eventually look at the person(s) funding McKinley’s campaign and simply wonder if he’s just in the race to run interference for another candidate in the race, just as Fred Thompson did on behalf of his friend John McCain during the presidential race. Once we get a look at disclosure reports the truth will come out if that’s the case, because beyond that there is no rationale for his candidacy whatsoever.

I’ll be the 2010 GOP gubernatorial nominee before McKinley is.

Well, well, more “wisdom” from on high. Why does anybody give this idiot blowhard the time of day?

  • Madison wrote on 9 June, 2009, 6:53

Serious Republicans should really re-consider their support of Craig Robinson as a respectable analyst of GOP politics in Iowa considering his cozy relationship with DemocratDeace.
    This post is garbage.

    “idiot blowhard”?

    “garbage”?

I don’t see anybody backing up their name-calling with a legitimate opposing viewpoint here.

again the nutty right (yeah you know who you are) are beginning to believe that they are the last word on litmus test for republicans. i dont know who Deace is or even care. i don’t care about gay marriage. as a fiscal conservative i care about the economy. we win the next elections by focusing on what people are talking about….THE ECONOMY STUPID !!!!!!

The fun part is that if we ignore Deace and his one-track politics, he just goes away. I stopped listening to his radio show, because he simply re-articulates (I use articulate loosely) the same point every day.

Peggy is making more attempts to elect more Democrats as she is not interested in our Senate and House Republicans succeeding.

  • Deace voted for Obama wrote on 9 June, 2009, 9:56

Jeff: You are correct. I actually heard a bit of his show the other day and he was talking about the EXACT same thing he was talking about the last time I heard any of his show. It was the same thing all over again–the Republicans are lousy.

Remember he voted for Obama so why would we care what he thinks. Deace is a Johnny-one-note bore. Stop listening!!

For those who like Obama, the Obama administration now wants to tax cow and hog farts. This is no joke. I think it’s $75.00 per cow and $20.00 per pig. These idiots are serious. Shame on ANYONE who voted for Obama or for any Democrat and that goes for Deace.

This “tax” will do great damage to the economy of Iowa and result in increases in food prices. This is as stupid as their idiotic tax on energy. God help us.

Craig Robinson and Steve Deace are the problem.

Why can’t we just give every gubernatorial candidate a chance to speak to us? Why do you have to trash them?

We need to welcome people into the Republican party, not just crazy, holier than now Soco’s. We’ll continue to lose if we don’t stop the hatred of those in our own party. I’m not saying that we give up our principles but come on. Yes, Jesus would be my #1 vote and great candidates like mckinley, larson, wahlert, lamberti, and so on would be a mighty fine 2nd choice. Quit the attacks of our own and let’s find a good leader who can lead us through these troubled times.

  • Deace voted for Obama wrote on 9 June, 2009, 10:14

Kaiser: Absolutely. To do otherwise continues to give us Culvers, Obamas and lots of Democrats running and ruining our lives.

  • HawkCR1 wrote on 9 June, 2009, 10:26

Well..the one thing that Deace FAILS to mention here is that it would have been pointless for McKinley or any other GOP legislator to have a marriage amendment on file for the session…as any proposed file would have failed to make through even the FIRST legislative funnel and would have been DEAD after that.

Never mind that even if the implausible happened and it actually made it out of committee before the funnel, does anyone here REALLY think Gronstal would have brought that bill up for debate, especially since the IA Supreme Court had yet to rule on the Varnum case?? Of course he wouldn’t have!

Oh and Mr. Deace, lest you forget there are only 17 Republicans in the Iowa Senate. The chances of McKinley even GETTING a procedural vote to the floor to force a vote on a marriage amendment were somewhere between slim to none and no way in HELL

You guys still think he voted for Obama? That’s funny.

  • HawkCR1 wrote on 9 June, 2009, 14:25

Well..isnt Obama the Messiah? I mean, thats the only person that’s perfect in Steve Deace’s world….

    Oh, the irony!

Peggy, Re: deace=”idiot blowhard”. I think I’ve proved my point on this site numerous times, go back thru the archives if you need to.

  • Timmy wrote on 9 June, 2009, 15:21

Well said HawkCR1, I’ve tried to point these facts out myself but for some reason a few would rather live under the delusion than actually accept the truth.

Great post Jeff! So you’re ignoring Deace by posting comments on an article he wrote? Did I “articulate” that correctly?

  • Jeff wrote on 11 June, 2009, 10:08

    > Great post Jeff! So you’re ignoring Deace by posting comments on an article he wrote? Did I “articulate” that correctly?

Yes, you were clear, but incorrect. I didn’t comment on his article at all. I made a comment about the man.

  • dosry5 wrote on 11 June, 2009, 19:52

Great, got it Jeff, thanks. You were making a comment about the man you are ignoring. So do you actually stick your fingers in your ears while you have his show on the radio?

  • dosry5 wrote on 11 June, 2009, 19:55

And Timmy….does your mother know what you do on the computer in her basement? I’m glad I started reading this website! Internet tough guys like the ones on here making comments and personal attacks make me smile. Takes a real tough and integrity laden leader to call someone names on a message board. You stay classy Timmy!
