Rep. Paulsen, Senator McKinley and the republicans and few democrats deserve tremendous credit for keeping our state viable for future business and job creation! Iowa is ranked as the second worst state for business given the climate this year on labor bills and the taxes/fees. Culver has given the movie industry tax abatements because he stated correctly that "they" will come to Iowa to produce films. But they only produce a single film and not an stationary industry with ongoing employment. So even our governor admits that the tax climate is very important to business. Kudos to Paulsen on a great job in a dismal environment!

One of the few joys of watching the legislative session of 2009 was watching Rep. Paulsen develop into the strong and outspoken leader we see today. When he was first elected, I will admit I was a little nervous that he wasn’t a strong enough personality to hold the House Republicans together in the face of a wide Democratic majority. Paulsen deserves a great deal of credit for his efforts this last session. Consider the tidal wave of adversity he faced on day 1. He had a 6 seat deficit (7 if you count Rep. Chambers who was sent to Iraq) and a mountain of bad Democrat backed legislation that many of us expected would be rammed threw the legislature this year. In spite of that, we held off the repeal of Federal Deductibility, Prevailing Wage, all of the Democrat big labor agenda and forced House democrats to take a recorded vote on marriage (even though it was only a procedural vote.) If Paulsen was this effective given the massive disadvantage he had this year, I can only imagine what he will be able to do as Speaker.

On the Senate side, McKinley deserves some kudos too. With only 18 members, the Senate was able to block some key bureaucratic appointments who would have been disastrous to Iowa’s economy. Granted, he didn’t get the attention this year that Paulsen did on the House side but McKinley and the Senate GOP defiantly deserve a slap on the back for their efforts this year too.

Will Rep. Paulsen be talking about his desire to raise the gas tax at the business forum or does he just do that with his trucker boss?

Sounds like Paulsen is on top of things. Republicans must minimize the damage being done by these economically illiterate Democrats. Democrats know NOTHING about growing an economy and it looks like they don't even care.

Democrats care far more about funneling as much money as possible to their crony friends knowing that a percentage of everything they get for their friends, comes flowing back to Democrat coffers.

Folks, we are financing our own demise with our own money. Democrats forcibly take from the producers and funnel to their government employees and the government employees send some back to the Democrats.

Everything Democrats do is with keeping the filling of their own campaign coffers in mind. We've been stupid about this long enough.
