Will Culver be Able to Fool Iowans in 2010

22-culver-6Governor Chet Culver told Iowa reporters that he didn’t violate his 2008 pledge to “do whatever it takes” to preserve marriage as the union between one man and one woman. Culver says that, since the court said that a church can decide whether or not they want to marry same-sex couples, it’s all good.

Also yesterday, Governor Culver released the details of his plan that repeals Iowans’ ability to deduct the taxes they pay the federal government from their state taxes. Culver and the Democrats are out there shouting from the rooftops that they are cutting taxes, but they’re strangely silent about the fact that hundreds of thousands of Iowans will see their taxes go up. I guess, “Now is not the time raise taxes,” really means, “Now is the time to raise taxes on some people.”

What the hell?

While I share the outrage that Culver and the Democrats are out-of-whack with the majority of Iowans, I worry that many Iowans will fall for Culver’s weak a$$ attempt to have it both ways.

Culver did absolutely nothing to protect or defend traditional marriage. Do you realize that under his logic, we could have an all white church or an all male church? Now there are no such churches in Iowa, but I’m confident that if there was, we would see legal action taken against them. It is just a matter of time before a same-sex couple wants a Baptist or Catholic Church to marry them. When those churches refuse, there will be another round of court cases that will inevitably tell religious institutions that they cannot discriminate.

On taxes, Culver is positioning himself to be able to say something like, “despite a world-wide economic recession, I was able to cut taxes by $54 million for hard working Iowa families.” Folks, get used to that line because I believe it will be the center piece of Chet Culver’s reelection campaign.

This is what happens when you have weak reporters who take politicians at their word because they don’t want to spend the time looking at the details of this kind of legislation.

Jason Clayworth: I’ve Got You Covered

I thought I’d keep an eye on what Jason Clayworth is covering up at the Iowa Capitol.

Jason is covering the hundreds of people who are at the capitol demanding a marriage amendment today.

Jason covered Culver’s statement siding with the Court’s decision to allow gay marriage.

Jason also covered the Democrats’ bogus tax cut plan.

“Do you realize that under his logic, we could have an all white church or an all male church?”

This logic is perfectly sound. It is legal and protected under the First Amendment to exclude women, men, other races, whoever you like from your religion. Culver’s a coward but he’s right. Churches can be as bigoted as they want. No homophobic pastor will have to marry two guys. Relax.

    Krappy Kuntservative,
You are a freaking joke. How much longer are you going to beat your bigot drum? Craig Robinson should be ashamed of himself. You advertise this site as “news” but really it is nothing more than a bunch of anonymous bloggers screaming hate at the top of their homophobic lungs.

You’re contributing to the downward spiral of your party. Congrats!

    Cynic – -

Protected under the first amendment? Isn’t political speech protected too…yet churches cannot engage in political activity without facing the loss of their tax-exempt status.

Sure, churches can do what they wish, but the government can make it very difficult for them to do so.

    Anonymous,

So much for Free Speech, right, Steve? I guess only he can say what he wants in his world.

You can say whatever you want. But when you sound like an idiot, sometimes you need someone to step in and let you know. That’s what I was doing. I’d hate for him to walk around being a complete moron and not know it.

It’s a public service I’m willing to do for you folks. Your welcome.

Stepping in – Steve you are sounding like an idiot. Just doing a public service.

stepping in here as well. steve the great thing about a free country is that that you have the right to read this BLOG or not read this BLOG. you have the right to comment or not comment. if it bothers you so much, choose to do your reading somewhere else. or do you stay off the democrat sites because no one reads them? or because they dont allow regular people to comment.

Pay no attention to Steve Feces.. as that is all he has to offer here is feces.

He isnt willing to explain WHY Culver has gone back on his word multiple times just in the past week and a half.

Folks..the fire has been lit under the rears of conservatives and Republicans the past two weeks.. First with the attempt to remove federal deductablity and now with the gay marriage ruling..

Culver and the Democrats have set themselves up for a very rough 2010…Culver’s re-elect numbers are still below 50% and over 70% of Iowans oppose Culver’s “bonding” plan which would put Iowa even further in debt.

2010..folks..its time to get behind our candidates..get our boots on the ground and take our state and our country back…

I think Krusty has a “man crush” on Jason Clayworth…..

Clayworth obviously is not a man, so Krusty can’t have a man crush on him, Librarian.
