Recession = Baby Killing and “Is There a Pope in the House?”

By Emily Geiger

When the Going Gets Tough, Innocent Babies Die

Well, if there’s a bright side to the recession, it’s that the recession is actually good for someone’s business.

The bad news is that the business that is booming is the abortion business.

There was an AP article online yesterday that was sickening and heartbreaking all at the same time. It recounted various examples of women, some of whom are married and already have children, who are pregnant and are having abortions because they don’t think they can afford another child.

I just don’t know how you can make a child with the man you love and claim you want that child, but then decide to kill it anyway. Wouldn’t it be better to give the child up for adoption and at least know that you did the best you could for your bab… that you gave him or her a chance?

You know you live in a messed up world when money is more important than your own child.

Paging the Pope, Pope, Are You There?

And speaking of the abortion controversy, it appears that the University of Notre Dame has a little conundrum on its hands.

Someone decided to invite the most anti-life president in recent memory to speak at the Catholic institution’s graduation ceremony, and of the invitations from all the gin joints, I mean, colleges, Obama accepted the one from Notre Dame.

First off, what the hell is the Notre Dame administration thinking? Are they trying to give the Vatican the middle finger, ‘cause that’s what it looks like.

And what’s up with Obama? He looks like he’s also aiming a not-so-friendly, one-fingered gesture at Rome.

There is one guy who can put an end to this insult, and he wears a pointy red hat. He was pretty good at giving Nancy Pelosi a piece of his mind. Let’s hope he puts his foot down and stands up to the Baby-Killer-in-Chief.

You’re awfully judgmental for a “young and highly attractive conservative.”

As I posted elsewhere on this site, having Obama speak at a Catholic University is akin to having Hitler keynote the grand opening of a Holocaust museum. The local bishop, John D’Arcy, has said he will not attend the ND graduation given the situation. The Pope doesn’t usually intercede in cases like this – that’s the local bishop’s job. And, even then, Catholic Universities have some autonomy, within reason. There are Catholics being shot in cold blood while they attend Mass in other parts of the world – our western problems are mild in comparison. But if I lived anywhere near ND, I’d start making my protest signs right now!

One, Peggy, you just Goodwinned this thread on the second post. Nice work. And since you brought up Hitler, a certain religious leader might also be unwelcome at the Holocaust museum, having been a member of the Hitler youth and having recently reinstated a Holocaust-denying bishop. PS – How many votes would Hitler get from Jews? I’m guessing none. Obama won the Catholic vote.

Two, Emily, since when have Republicans started caring what people in other countries think?

No offense Peggy, but the local bishop refusing to participate in protest just isn’t good enough. This situation currently includes one head of state, and it will probably take another head of state to put a stop to it. Let’s face it, the practice of letting local bishops deal with abortion-supporting Catholic politicians just isn’t getting the job done. It’s time for some real leadership from church officials on this issue.

Well, Iowa Cynic, you got those two stories half right.

  • steve right wrote on 25 March, 2009, 10:49

No… Iowa Cynic pretty much nailed it.

  • Peggy wrote on 25 March, 2009, 11:17

Really, Steve Right? There’s not more to those stories? Aren’t you a journalist?

  • steve right wrote on 25 March, 2009, 11:30

Not a journalist, actually, but I can see where after reading this Web site I do begin to sound more authoritative. But no one has hired me just yet, and the Register apparently isn’t accepting applications.

Now, it’s getting late, Peggy. Shouldn’t you be getting back to the 19th Century where your beliefs still have value?

  • Peggy wrote on 25 March, 2009, 11:42

Why would anyone hire you? You act (and debate) like a third-grader.

Can’t you discuss the issues without resorting to personal insults and name-calling?

  • steve right wrote on 25 March, 2009, 12:16

    Peggy,
I was kidding about applying to the Register, btw. I sometimes forget how immune conservatives are to sarcasm.

  • Anonymous wrote on 25 March, 2009, 17:39

He wasn’t kidding, he wants to work at the register badly. Peggy, do what all other intelligent do with Steve Right, ignore him. He tries to take precious time from productive members of society because he has nothing better to do. Do something constructive rather than debate with him.

  • Peggy wrote on 25 March, 2009, 19:31

‘Anonymous’ posters are such a bore.

Thanks for the advice – you managed to insult both me AND Steve Right on one post. Genius.
