The great thing about Iowa is you never know who you will bump into. Marshall Clemons, a custodian at Harding Middle in Cedar Rapids had the opportunity of a lifetime when then-Senator Joe Biden “walked a day in his shoes” in August of 2007. The program was sponsored by the Service Employees International Union to ensure that presidential candidates experience firsthand what life is like for working people.
Marshall Clemons took another interesting walk today, this time in handcuffs and with a couple of state troopers on each arm. Marshall Clemons was arrested today at the Iowa State Capitol for stealing wallets from women. Clemons has been charged with two counts of fifth degree theft and booked into the Polk County Jail. Clemons stole two ladies’ wallets before a lobbyist witnessed him reaching into a friend’s bag and alerted authorities.
Clemons was a personal guest of Vice President Joe Biden at the inauguration. Clemons attended inaugural balls and had a personal tour of the White House with the Vice President himself.
Clemons was at the State Capitol today as part of a labor union contingent. The unions have had difficulty getting their legislative priorities passed despite Democrats holding huge majorities in the Iowa House, Iowa Senate, and having a Democrat Governor in Chet Culver.

Typical Democrat–always thinking they’re entitled to other people’s money.
The sad part is how hard the conservatives in this state latched on to one union guys dumbass move.
But while we’re on the subject of felons in politics, let us turn our hymn books to chapter 43, entitled “Corruption in the highest office of the land” —
Do you know how many former Bush administration officials have been sentenced with jail time? The answer is a whopping eight. Most recently there was Felipe Sixto, who served as special assistant to President Bush for intergovernmental affairs. He recently pled guilty to embezzling $600,000 from the Center for a Free Cuba, a government-funded program and received a 30-month prison sentence.
Most famously, there was former Vice President Dick Cheney’s chief-of-staff, Scooter Libby. He was sentenced to 30 months, though President Bush quickly commuted the sentence, for his role in the leaking and subsequent coverup of CIA agent Valerie Plame’s identity to the press.
David Safavian, chief-of-staff of the General Services Administration and the head procurement official of the federal government went to prison for 18 months on charges related to the Jack Abramoff lobbyist scandal.
For obstructing the Senate investigation into Abramoff and for tax evasion, Italia Federici, a political aide to then Secretary of the Interior, Gail Norton, received a two month sentence in a halfway house.
Fedrici’s boyfriend, Steven Griles, who was the number two official at the Interior Department, also received 10 months in jail for his part in the Abramoff scandal.
Bob Stein, the comptroller of the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq, received the longest sentence of any Bush official (as of yet) – nine years in prison for money laundering, conspiracy and bribery.
Brian Doyle, a deputy press secretary at the Department of Homeland Security, was sentenced to five years in jail for attempting to use a computer to seduce a child.
Former executive director of the CIA, Dusty Fago, received a three year prison sentence on corruption charges.
What was that part of the Bible about casting stones?
All the above criminals were elected officials, not just a member of a local union who turns out to be a dumbass. Not sure how this makes Joe Biden look bad, or the union. Just this one dumbass.
George Bush has eight dumbasses, errr, felons in his past (so far).
Craig,
I hope you’re aware you’re violating copyright law by running the above photos from the Register. You could get into some serious trouble, since I’m sure they read your site.
They are not the Register’s photos.
Gosh, I rushed right over here as soon as I heard about this. I was so anxious to know what Mr Right had to say about it.
Oh Steve
Why should anyone be shocked that you go back to the Bush Derangement Syndrome crap. Dude, that’s so 2006.
Let’s talk about the story at hand here. We have a guy who’s on the Executive Board of SEIU Local 199 up at the Capitol lobbying. Nothing unusual about that right? I guess you don’t see how its a big goddamn embarrassment for SEIU to explain to State Senators and Reps why one of their people decided to engage in petty theft instead of lobbying. I really don’t think its good strategy to begin stealing from the pockets of Iowans BEFORE the Gov can sign that Fair Share legislation there Steve
Oh Todd,
Don’t worry. I get it. Times are tough in the permanent minority. And at this point you guys will hang your hat on just about anything.
Is it going to embarrass the union? Probably. But in the grand scheme of things, it’s one embarrassing member.
But hey, you guys enjoy. You get so few things to cheer about anymore.
“I have full confidence in Secretary Gei..uh uh..I mean…I have ful confidence in the Vice President and the working men and women of the SEIU.”
Craig lets see the mug shot!
What a $h-tty day for SEIU. This entire session has been a mess for the unions. Do they need new leadership? Or do they just need to buy new legislators? This guy is a serious black eye on SEIU.
“Look, this was not the work of my administration. The previous administration destroyed this economy. Fellas like Marshall Clemons are living paycheck to paycheck. What are they supposed to do when George Bush left them no choice? And again I have full confidence in the working men and women of SEIU. Marshall Clemons will benefit greatly from my stimulus package — a chicken in every pot, a wallet in every garbage can. And Marshall Clemons is a janitor. He is going to do very well.”
Steve
Thanks for demonstrating your ignorance again! Not shocking you’d miss the point.
This should embarrass SEIU so much that they wouldn’t dare to show their face up on the Hill for the rest of the Session. Do you really think any self respecting legislator is going to pay any attention to SEIU the rest of this session? Yeah let’s get all buddy buddy with the organization that sent a guy up who tried robbing people blind!
a great day for anyone who is not seiu. want to bet afscme is laughing about this right now?
you spelled your title wrong. jackass.
I am also tempted to gloat. However it looks like the guy has a wife and kid — sad.
So how many IllegalAliens in your union Mr. wright????????
If Steve Wrong wants to get into political crooks, we can make a list of Democrat crooks so long, it will take all day to list them all. Let’s just start with Teleprompter’s list of tax cheats. Then we can add Dodd, Frank, Rangel, Johnson, Gorelick, Raines, Burris, Blago, Rezko, Jefferson, Ballance,
These are just the start off the top of my head.
Don’t forget Ramona, Archie, et.al
