Pro-Life Update
Issue #1
So, even though abortion is legal, I think most people still expect that our government won’t actually promote abortion or fund it in any way.
If that’s what you thought, you’d be wrong.
Turns out that a drug-court counselor in Pennsylvania convinced court officials to fund an abortion for a woman facing drug charges.
So much for promoting a culture of life.
Issue #2
Obama has raised the hackles of pro-lifers with his appointment of Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius to the position of Secretary of Health and Human Services. Sebelius is viewed as being a little too cozy with controversial abortionist George Tiller, who is being investigated criminally for “performing late-term abortions on underage girls.”
So much for Obama governing from the middle.
Issue #3
Right here in Iowa, some people thought it might be a good idea to have a law that would require that medical complications arising from abortions be reported to the state. This would allow women considering abortion to have more accurate information about the actual risks of the procedure.
So much for doing what is best for the women of Iowa.
Other Thursday Randomness
The talk of the Iowa blogosphere is the bill that would change the name of the Department of Elder Affairs so that it would be called the Department on Aging a/k/a the “D.O.A.”
Some defenders of the change are saying this is much ado about nothing. But, come on. They obviously didn’t really think about this… especially given the fact that state agencies are so often referred to by their initials.
When you have kid and you are picking out names, you think about what their initials might spell out and try to avoid names whose initials would spell out embarrassing words. That’s just common sense. But, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at a lack of common sense amongst the statehouse Democrats.
I personally have known a N.A.P. He had some issues as a kid.
But it could have been a lot worse. Imagine being a “Frank Allen Thompson.” That would be bad.
Or what if Governor Culver had another son and decided to go all political on the kid: Franklin Ulysses.
That would be worse.

Paul Tanner is a mildly unattractive moderate who is tired of pen names in the Conservative movement and anonymous troglodytes getting away with character assassination.
Sorry. Couldn’t resist. You are ridiculous.
