DES MOINES – Senate Republican Leader Bill Dix, R-Shell Rock, today welcomed Senator Jack Whitver to the Senate Republican leadership team.

Senate Republicans elected Senator Whitver, R-Ankeny, to the whip post during Tuesday’s meeting at the State Capitol.

“I am excited to welcome Senator Whitver to the Senate Republican leadership team,” Senator Dix said. “Senator Whitver understands the significance of creating a legacy of opportunity for all Iowans. He will be a champion in sharing our vision for a more prosperous Iowa, and work tirelessly to help Senate Republicans claim majority in 2014.”

Senator Whitver said he appreciated the support of his colleagues.

“It is an honor to be elected Senate Republican whip,” Whitver said. “I look forward to working with Senator Dix, the leadership team and Senate Republicans to pass legislation that helps create jobs and establishes Iowa as the one of the most business-friendly states in the nation.

“During my tenure as ranking member on the Senate appropriations committee, I fought for responsible budgeting practices and assured Iowans Senate Republicans would work diligently to spend less than we receive. It is important to continue that fight as whip as well as being a strong voice for comprehensive tax reforms.”
