TheIowaRepublican.com’s Kevin Hall and Democrat strategist Jeff Link sparred Tuesday morning over Congressman Bruce Braley’s vote in support of a bill that cuts the pensions of military veterans and wounded warriors.
Hall and Link appear weekly on KCWI-TV’s “Great Day” program at 7:30 am. This week, Link was trumpeting Braley’s participation in a so-called non-partisan group called “No Labels” when Hall pointed out that Braley is one of the most liberal members of Congress.
“The American Conservative Union’s rating rates him lower than Nancy Pelosi,” Hall said. “More liberal than Pelosi. More liberal than Tom Harkin…to say that these guys are non-partisan, I mean, come on. They vote with the Democrats straight down the line. They’re not non-partisan. It’s nice to say that during an election year. Conveniently, Bruce Braley has just joined this group.”
Link then pointed out that Braley is working on veterans’ issues in Congress.
“I find it interesting that Bruce Braley claims to be all about veterans’ issues. Just a few weeks ago, he voted for a budget bill that tries to balance the budget on the backs of our military veterans by stripping their pensions. Not just military veterans, but wounded warriors would have their pensions cut under a budget plan that Bruce Braley voted for,” Hall retorted. “How he can vote for that and claim to be for veterans’ issues is beyond me. That’s just a disgraceful way to go about it.”
They also discussed the state budget, the debt ceiling and more.
