Story County GOP to Host 5k Run with Grassley to Benefit Freedom Flight

Ames, IA – Chairman Dane Nealson announced today that the Story County Republican Party is partnering with the Story County Freedom Flight in organizing a charity 5k featuring Senator Chuck Grassley. The event will take place on Saturday, April 5 at SCORE Pavilion in Nevada, IA. Included in the day’s events are a 5k race, a one-mile walk, and a children’s fun run. A pancake breakfast will immediately follow the race. All money raised will be directly contributed to the Story County Freedom Flight.

“This is a unique opportunity for our organization to host a nonpartisan event that raises money for an incredible cause,” said Chairman Nealson. “I am thankful to Senator Grassley for agreeing to join us, and am looking forward to a successful event which will raise funds to send these great American heroes to Washington D.C. on a trip they truly deserve.”

Story County Freedom Flight honors Story County veterans from World War II, Korea and Vietnam for their sacrifices by sending them to Washington D.C. to visit the memorials from their respective wars. The organization is in its third year of operation, and was awarded the Governor’s Volunteer Recognition Award by Governor Terry Branstad in 2013 for their efforts.

Chuck Grassley continues to be an active runner, despite his busy schedule. In September, Grassley celebrated his 80th birthday by running six miles, and he continues to run multiple 5k’s each year.
