Schneider Opts Against Congressional Run

Iowa State Senator Charles Schneider has decided against running for the U.S. Congress. Schneider was considering a bid for the Third District seat after longtime Congressman Tom Latham announced he would retire at the end of this year.

“This is a decision that came about after a lot of discussion with my wife Lisa and with family and friends,” Schneider told TheIowaRepublican.com. “In thinking about whether to do it or not, I realized my real passion right now is on state issues and on making our state more competitive. I’m focused on attracted new jobs to the state and making sure our children are prepared to compete in a global economy.”

Schneider is serving his first-term in the Iowa Senate. He is a former West Des Moines city councilman.

“I’m excited about our opportunities to hopefully a majority in the Iowa Senate and the impact that would have on our ability to make significant changes to make our state a better place,” Schneider said.
