Polk GOP Pulls Out of Sponsoring U.S. Senate Forum at Grand View

The Polk County Republican Party decided to withdraw it’s sponsorship of a U.S. Senate forum scheduled for Wednesday night due to a dispute with the co-sponsors, the Grand View College Republicans. The event is scheduled to take place at Grand View University in Des Moines.

Polk GOP officials wanted to preview the questions the Grand View CR’s approved for the forum, but the College Republicans repeatedly declined. Tuesday afternoon, the Polk GOP removed it’s sponsorship

“The Republican Party of Polk County takes great pride in the events it hosts, co-hosts and sponsors,” said Polk GOP Chairman Will Rogers, in a statement. “Over the years we have garnered the reputation of being an effective and professional organization. It is with great disappointment that we will remove our name from the co-sponsorship of the U.S. Republican Senate forum hosted by The Grand View University College Republicans.”

Chairman Rogers continued, “We send best wishes to those GOP U.S. Senate candidates who chose to continue to participate. We always encourage the electorate to seek opportunities to hear from the candidates so they are comfortable in making a well-informed decision at the ballot box.”

The forum will still take place Wednesday evening on the Grand View University campus. All five candidates were slated to participate. At least one, Joni Ernst, has now withdrawn from the forum since the Polk GOP is no longer involved.
