Matt Strawn abdicated the chairmanship of the Republican Party of Iowa in January of 2012 after mishandling the certification of the presidential caucus vote. While his unwillingness to declare Rick Santorum the winner of the Iowa Caucuses created an uproar, some Iowa Republicans still consider him to have been a good chairman, especially in comparison to his successor.
The Associated Press reported on Tuesday that Strawn has now been hired by the American Civil Liberties Union to lobby for gay marriage in Illinois. Strawn’s public affairs firm, Next Generation Public Affairs, Inc, also includes Pat Brady, the former Chairman of the Illinois Republican Party. Gay marriage legislation is expected to be re-introduced this fall in the Illinois statehouse. A previous effort failed because of a lack of support according to the Associated Press.
