Lofgren Drops Out of HD 91 Race

The race for the Republican nomination in House District 91 is back down to three candidates. Emily Lofgren announced on Facebook Thursday night that she is dropping out of the race.

Lofgren is the daughter of current HD 91 Rep. Mark Lofgren, who is running for congress.

Here is what Emily Lofgren wrote:

“I’d like to thank you all for your support of my campaign for State Representative! With much prayer, I’ve made the decision to step down from the race and focus my efforts on helping my father, Mark Lofgren, get elected to Congress.

While I have confidence I would have served the district well, there are other priorities that come first. It’s time we defeat Dave Loebsack and fix Congress. I know that with the current contenders for State Representative, Muscatine is in good hands.”

Lofgren’s announcement came just two days after prominent Muscatine businessman Gary Carlson announced he was entering the HD 91 race. The other Republican candidates are Muscatine City Councilman Mark LeRette and Muscatine County GOP Co-Chair Mark Cisneros.
