Latham on Iowa Press: Emotional decision, but it’s the right time to step aside.

Rep. Tom Latham (R-Clive) says he had a conversation with his wife and family and decided it is the right time for him to step aside and give up his seat in Congress. He says it’s an emotional decision because he loves the job, and he has considered it a great honor.

Rep. Tom Latham (R-Clive) says he has never endorsed a candidate in a primary election, and he doesn’t expect to endorse anyone in the 2014 Republican primary
for the 3rd District Congressional seat he now holds. He says several Iowans have contacted him with interest in the seat. Latham says the ideal candidate will be
someone who can listen to constituents and translate that into action in Washington.

Rep. Tom Latham (R-Clive) says he doesn’t know right now if he would consider becoming a lobbyist after he leaves Congress at the end of this term.
He says there are many opportunities, including possibly working for a charity, and he hasn’t talked with his family about what will be his next step.
