Second GOP Candidate Emerges in HD 52 Special Election

Dennis Litterer Announces Run For Statehouse

(IONIA) – Dennis Litterer of rural Ionia has announced his candidacy for the Iowa House in House District 52.  The seat will be left vacant after current State Representative Brian Quirk announced his resignation last week.  After 2010 redistricting, the new House District encompasses eastern Cerro Gordo County, as well as all of Floyd, and Chickasaw Counties.

“I have decided to run for the House as I feel I bring a strong resume to the position,” Litterer said.  “Agriculture and business are economic drivers in this district and I have a strong background in both areas.

Litterer is a native of Nashua growing up on the family farm with brothers Wayne (Nashua), Ronald (Nashua), David (Waverly), and sister Nancy (Nashua).  Litterer graduated from Nashua High School in 1973.  Upon graduation Litterer attended Waldorf College earning his AA degree in education.  Litterer received an athletic scholarship at Northern Illinois University where he graduated in 1977 with a BA in education.

For 16 years Litterer farmed in the Nashua area prior to pursuing a career in the investment and insurance agency.  Over the course of the last 28 years Litterer has grown his main street business from an insurance and investment company to a company in which he offers crop insurance, accident, health, securities, and personal lines of commercial property and casualty.  “I understand what it’s like to be a Main Street business owner in rural Iowa,” said Litterer.  “The Iowa House has done a great job of managing state budgets and not spending more than they take in and as a business owner that is a practice I implement each and every day.”

Dennis currently resides in rural Ionia with his wife Lisa who is an Occupational Therapist.  The couple has three grown children.  Tammy, a restaurant manager, resides in Gattlenburg, TN.  Rusty lives in New Brunswick, NJ where he is a fire fighter and recently returned from a deployment with the Air National Guard in Afghanistan.  Susan resides and works in Aspen, Colorado.  Dennis also has two step daughters.  Melody is a Physical Therapy Assistant in Henderson, Nevada and Whitney resides in Denver, Iowa.

Litterer has been an active member of his community.  He has served as a 4-H leader, as part of the Farm Bureau Young Member Advisory Committee, on the Nashua City Council, Nashua School Board, Nashua Booster Club, Nashua-Plainfield Lions Club, and is the current President of the Chickasaw County Historical Society.  In addition to being an active member of his community Litterer has also been a member of the Iowa Cattleman’s Association, National Rifle Association, and National Association Insurance and Financial Advisors.

“I believe, with my fiscal conservative beliefs, extensive leadership experiences, business knowledge, agriculture background, and active community involvement, I will serve the constituents of District 52 very well,” said Litterer.
