DES MOINES, IA – Latham for Congress today announced that it is reserving $1.5 million in television advertising. The move, unprecedented by an Iowa candidate committee, reserves ad buys that will run beginning in the month of August through Election Day covering the Des Moines and Omaha media markets, the two markets located in the new congressional district.
“The campaign has built and maintained a solid financial and organizational lead in this race,” noted manager Annie Kelly. “The strong financial support allows us to ensure that Tom Latham’s work and fight for every Iowan will be heard by the voters at the most critical time of the election calendar.”
Latham, who’s campaign has set Iowa Congressional fund-raising records this cycle, raised $409,632 in the first quarter of 2012 and has nearly $2 million cash on hand, more than triple what is reported in his opponent’s account.
“There is a groundswell of support for Tom Latham, the numbers prove that,” continued Kelly. “The media buys that we are in the process of placing now are a clear indicator that our campaign will have the resources to forcefully respond to the false attacks from outside special interests and inform voters of Tom’s work for common sense solutions that bring jobs and economic security back to Iowa main streets, small businesses and farms.”
The race for Iowa’s new third district, encompassing the 16 counties in the southwest corner of the state, was created as a result of the redistricting process. Latham’s campaign has shown strong organizational successes with the establishment of a grassroots network of over 400 precinct leaders that cover all 384 precincts in the new district. The network is an impressive sign of organization that has been in place and very active almost a year before this November’s election.
