Kevin’s Korner: Delegate Math, Obama/Romney Differences, and Gingers Do Have Souls

Greetings and welcome to Kevin’s Korner. I have proof. Scientific. People are far dumber than they realize … Present company excluded, of course.

If Ron Paul is such a genius with monetary policy, how is it he has spent a whopping $686,000 per delegate so far? … That’s $199,000 more than the rest of field. Combined … Before the Louisiana primary, Rick Santorum had only paid $52,000 per delegate, Romney $187,000 and Newt $248,000

Dr. Paul is running out of money and his super PAC backer Peter Thiel, of Facebook fame, apparently has given up on the lost cause … Maybe Eduardo Saverin has some extra cash he could invest … Instead of auditing the Fed, perhaps Paul should audit his own campaign to see what they’re wasting all that $$$ on … Better yet, just abolish both.

There was much ado about the Scott County Paulbots trying to reconvene the county’s GOP convention. They failed to get enough people there to participate … I think Paulbot-in-Recovery A.J. Spiker did the right thing by telling them they had no authority to call for a reconvening. I also question if the proper procedures were followed at the convention, which seems to be a statewide issue … SCC member David Chung has an excellent piece on this. He’s right. The time to address any concerns was at the convention, not two weeks later.

District and state conventions are going to be a mess if those in charge are weak leaders or do not come fully prepared … BTW, Scott GOP Chair Judy Davidson has done a fantastic job leading the party in the Quad Cities area. She is a big reason why Scott County is on its way to flipping from blue to red.

Speaking of those in charge, Polk GOP Chairman Kevin McLaughlin faces a likely challenge to his position at this Tuesday’s meeting … The central committee sent postcards out saying a member has “requested a vote regarding the status of the Chairman”. This has been brewing since a chaotic convention, if not before … I will be at Tuesday’s meeting, but will not take part in a vote to remove the chair, if it is called for.

My clandestine, ubiquitous informants tell me everyone’s favorite anti-Republican Republican, state rep Kim Pearson, is plotting for McLaughlin, and possibly co-chair Dave Funk, to be ousted and replaced by Paulbots … If true, that would have significant disastrous, far-reaching effects on the Republican Party … If the current chair goes, a new election cannot take place until at least the next meeting …

This is a crucial election year and Polk County plays a vital role in a very important congressional race and the presidential election. We need to get our act together. Fast … Once again, the role of GOP central committees is to get Republicans elected. Period.

For some silly reason, some people keep bringing up Governor Branstad’s name as a possible VP pick if Mitt Romney clinches the nomination. Branstad has no desire to work in Washington, D.C. He is an Iowan, through and through and does not want to leave the Hawkeye State. I know this, because he told me so two years ago … If Romney wins, he needs a VP nominee that can fire-up the conservative base. That is the only way evangelicals will turn out en masse.

Rick Santorum made a big mistake when he stepped all over the Romney/Etch-a-Sketch story. He said, “We might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate of the future” … Whether there’s any difference between Romney and Obama is not the point … BTW, I’m not a Romney fan, but there are significant differences

For instance, they both wear mom jeans, but Obama’s are baggy. Romney’s go up to his chestRomney was dominant in liberal states like New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont and Illinois. Obama will be dominant there in November … Romney makes the family dog ride on the car roof. Obama’s family eats dogs

The point is, Romney was getting hammered everywhere after his own campaign staff bungled with the Etch-a-Sketch reference. Santorum’s statement turned the media focus on himself and off Mittens. That’s why it was a dumb thing to say.

How pathetic was President Obama’s pandering on oil drilling last week? He went to Oklahoma and encouraged them to go ahead and build the southern half of the Keystone pipeline. Of course, this came just two weeks after he lobbied the Senate to block building of the northern half. You know, the part where the oil comes from. The part that begins in Canada

Barack Obama thinks Americans are stupid … We don’t need Obama’s permission to build the southern half … Meanwhile, the Canadians cut a deal with the Chinese to send their oil there … Remember Obama’s “help” with Keystone the next time you pay $60+ to fill up your gas tank.

More facts are coming out about the Florida shooting and it looks like once again the liberal media, and President Obama turned it into a race issue before they collected all the facts … First of all, it’s not a white vs. black crime. The shooter, George Zimmerman, is Hispanic … There is overwhelming evidence, including a witness, that Trayvon Martin attacked George Zimmerman before the shooting … The 911 call with the person screaming in the background? That was Zimmerman screaming, not Martin … Martin’s family said so …

From a Tampa TV station: “Sanford police say Zimmerman was bloody in his face and head, and the back of his shirt was wet and had grass stains, indicating a struggle took place before the shooting.” … Either way, this was an avoidable tragedy. Let’s not make it worse by jumping to conclusions … Geraldo Rivera’s ignorant comments made things worse. Not surprising. Geraldo has a long history of making an ass of himself on national TV.

I have to laugh when liberals use the term “anti-choice” to describe pro-lifers. After all, the nanny state Dems are anti-choice on everything except abortion. They’re for removing choice when it comes to what we can and can’t eat, where our children go to school, buying health insurance, forcing religious institutions to pay for birth control, Cap and Trade, and controlling almost every aspect of our lives and our businesses … But when it comes to killing babies, anyone who wants to protect them is “anti-choice” … Liberals’ hypocrisy knows no bounds.

Finally, congrats to the new executive board of the Iowa Federation of College Republicans: Luke Draisey, Ingrid Bisenius, John Kaufmann and Kelsey Boehm. I’m sure you’ll do a great job. However, I’m disappointed you discontinued the practice of placing gingers in charge … We are the 2%.

Thanks for reading. Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.
