(AMES) – The Iowa Corn Growers Association Political Action Committee today endorsed Rep. Steve King (R-Kiron) in the new 4th Congressional District race over candidate Christie Vilsack, wife of United States Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.
The Iowa Corn Growers Association endorsement comes just a week after the Iowa Farm Bureau endorsed King and designated him a “Friend of Agriculture.” King was the only candidate to receive the designation in the new 4th Congressional District.
“As I continue working to represent Iowans in the new 4th Congressional District – a district that is the very heart of the Corn Belt and one of the top producing agricultural districts in the nation – the Iowa Corn Growers Association endorsement is a treasured stamp of approval,” said King. “I am very happy to have received both the Iowa Corn Growers and the Iowa Farm Bureau’s support and look forward to continuing my work for rural Iowa, Iowa agriculture and the Farm Bill’s passage.”
The Iowa Corn Growers Association represents nearly 6,000 members throughout Iowa.
“We thank Steve King for his leadership on issues important to the Iowa corn grower, including his work on the Farm Bill, ethanol, and transportation, particularly the Missouri River, “ said Mark Recker, Iowa Corn PAC chair. “His record is clear and his past support for the long term polices that affect our farmers is obvious.”
King is a senior member of the House Agriculture Committee and continues to press House leadership to bring the Farm Bill to the floor of the United States House of Representatives for a vote.
