The commonly understood definition of insanity is doing something over and over again and expecting different results. This definition can certainly apply to President Obama’s clean energy initiative.
Year after year, the Obama administration has spent gobs of money on clean energy “job creation” and “stimulus” with zero results. After spending $90 billion toward clean energy jobs, unemployment remains at a devastating rate of 8.2 percent, and long-term unemployed jumped from 5.1 to 5.4 million in May.
From the beginning, it was clear that green initiatives were not as lucrative in creating jobs as originally thought.
In 2009, the Department of Energy granted Fisker Automotive a $528.7 million loan for hybrid development. This would not only forward the clean energy movement, the argument went, but also create much-needed manufacturing jobs.
Vice President Joe Biden said, “We understood a new chapter had to be written, a new chapter in which we strengthen American manufacturing by investing in innovation.”
Unfortunately, that plan was unsuccessful.
Before production even began, the company laid-off twenty six employees in the Delaware branch, followed by another dozen earlier this year. The warehouse is now virtually empty aside from maintenance employees.
Of the 12 loans the Obama administration gave to clean energy companies, “two firms filed for bankruptcy, a third has faced layoffs and a fourth deal never closed,” reports ABC News.
Then, of course, there is the Solyndra scandal: $535 million spent, and nearly 2,000 jobs lost.
Even after all these disasters, the President still insists that green jobs are the way of the future.
So, $90 billion spent total so far, and unemployment still remains over 8 percent for the 41st month straight.
This is the definition of insanity personified.
