Independence Day Round Up

The USS Iowa was recommissioned on Wednesday, the new mission for the battleship is as a museum.  The Iowa is one of 48 warships that have become tourist attractions, but as the LA Times reports, not all are successful.

Some media outlets have reported that Governor Branstad choked on a cracker while attending the USS Iowa rededication in Los Angeles, others say it was a carrot.  Regardless, the good news is that Branstad is fine, but this is not the type of news he wanted to make on his west coast trip.

Romney Spokesperson: Obamacare is not a tax.

Wall Street Journal gets tough with the Romney campaign: Mitt Romney loses his run for the White House, a turning point will have been his decision Monday to absolve President Obama of raising taxes on the middle class. He is managing to turn the only possible silver lining in Chief Justice John Roberts’s ObamaCare salvage operation—that the mandate to buy insurance or pay a penalty is really a tax—into a second political defeat.

Romney: Obamacare is a tax.

The LA Times reports: Contradicting one of his senior advisors, Mitt Romney said Wednesday that the individual mandate in President Obama‘s healthcare plan is a tax, and stands as evidence that Obama has broken a promise not to raise taxes on the middle class.
