Iowa Speaker of the House Kraig Paulsen is picking sides in the hotly contested GOP primary battle in House District 10. Paulsen is backing Representative Tom Shaw over challenger Maison Bleam. Shaw posted the announcement on his Facebook page Thursday afternoon:
(DES MOINES) –Today House Speaker Kraig Paulsen (R-Hiawatha) endorsed Rep. Tom Shaw (R-Laurens) for the June 5th House primary.
“Rep. Shaw is a proven leader in the House. He has worked to build consensus on important legislation affecting small businesses and veterans,” said Speaker Paulsen. “He has worked tirelessly to protect and defend Iowans’ freedoms and liberties and I am proud to support Tom Shaw’s re-election to the Iowa House.”
The new House district is comprised of all of Pocahontas, Humboldt, and Calhoun Counties as well as portions of rural Webster County.
During his first term in the House, Shaw has already taken on numerous leadership roles including Vice Chair of the Public Safety Committee. He also serves on the Agriculture, Commerce and Veterans Affairs committees.
