Liberal Democrat Congressman Dave Loebsack will receive a primary challenge from moderate State Senator Joe Seng in the June 5 primary. Seng currently represents Iowa Senate District 43, which includes Davenport. Loebsack is the only sitting congressman from Iowa who faces a primary challenger.

Friday marked the deadline for Iowa congressional and legislative candidates to officially file with the Secretary of State’s office for the June 5 primaries. Several candidates waited until the final day to make their candidacy official. The filings also provide a preview of the November general election races. Five Republican senate candidates do not have a Democrat opponent so far, while there is at least one Republican running in every senate race. General election candidates can still be selected at state conventions.

***This article was updated Friday evening, after the Iowa Secretary of State updated their list with final day filings.***
