Perhaps no candidate did a better job at introducing themselves to Iowa activists than John Archer did in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District. Archer’s hard work and perseverance paid off as he defeated his Republican opponent Dan Dolan, 61 percent to 39 percent.
Archer got off to an early start in campaigning for the Republican nomination by wisely using all of the presidential activity surrounding the Iowa caucuses to introduce himself to activists across the district. Archer’s shoe leather campaign combined with cable TV ads, direct mail, and phones, proved to be a winning combination.
Archer will face Congressman Dave Loebsack this fall. The Des Moines Register recently rated Loebsack the least effective congressman in the Iowa delegation. The newly redrawn 2nd Congressional District is not nearly as liberal as the old district was. With Archer being from Scott County, the largest county in the district, Loebsack will have his hands full this fall as he has never represented the area before.
