Pawlenty gets on the Values Voter Bus

With five days left before the Iowa Straw Poll, the Values Voter Bus pulled into Des Moines this morning to launch a four-day 1,305 mile tour that will pass through 47 of Iowa’s 99 counties with stops in 22 cities.

The purpose of the bus tour sponsored by the Family Research Council, the National Organization for Marriage and the Susan B. Anthony List is to bring focus to the importance of “life, marriage, religious liberty, certainly the economy and all the issues that affect families today,” said Connie Mackey with Family Research Council’s Faith, Family and Freedom Fund.

“People are policy, we want to make sure the right people go to Washington,” said Mackey.

The tour launched in front of the Iowa State Capitol flaked by Gov. Tim Pawlenty, a signer of the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life Citizen’s Pledge, and a group of well-known pro-life leaders including Chuck Hurley from the Iowa Family Policy Center, Bob Vander Plaats from the Iowa Family Leader, Tamara Scott Iowa of Concerned Women for America, Jennifer Bowen of Iowa Right to Life, Kim Layman from the Republican National Committee. Also joining the group this morning for opening remarks were former U.S. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave from Colorado representing the Susan B. Anthony Foundation, Chris Plante from the National Organization for Marriage, and Iowa Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds.

In addition to Gov. Pawlenty, other GOP candidates who have signed the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life Citizen’s Pledge are Rep. Michele Bachmann, Speaker Newt Gingrich, Rep. Ron Paul, Sen. Rick Santorum and Rep. Thaddeus McCotter.

The Value Voters Bus Tour left from in front of the Iowa State Capitol at 10:30 a.m. for a noon stop in Oskaloosa followed by other stops scheduled for later today in Washington, Muscatine, Davenport and Iowa City. The bus tour concludes Saturday in Ames at the Iowa Straw Poll.
