Pawlenty, Santorum, and Cain Back Straw Poll

Thus far, two candidates have publically backed the Republican Party of Iowa’s Ames Straw Poll, Tim Pawlenty and Rick Santorum. Below are the statements they have released.

Santorum Campaign

It is disappointing that the perceived front runner would choose to disregard Iowa voters and the importance of the first in the nation caucus. He has traveled to Iowa only once this year, and has shown no commitment to the voters of Iowa or the importance of this caucus in the presidential nominating process.

Senator Santorum is fully committed to Iowa. He’s been there more than any of the other presidential candidates, is spending part of the summer in Iowa with his family and will encourage his supporters to attend the Iowa straw poll.

Pawlenty Campaign

Iowa Chairman Matt Whitaker said, “I joined Governor Pawlenty’s campaign because I knew he could put his record before voters everywhere. The Ames straw poll is a great gathering of conservatives, and Governor Pawlenty’s solid record will be well received there. I look forward to joining thousands of Iowans in casting my vote for Governor Pawlenty in Ames this summer and in the caucuses this winter.”

Cain Campaign

“After this week, Mr. Cain will have visited Iowa 20 times in less a year. He has enjoyed his time in the Hawkeye state, spreading his message of ‘common sense solutions,’ and more importantly, listening to Iowans about their concerns and ideas to get this country back on the right track. We look forward to the Ames straw poll and all opportunities to meet with voters in Iowa.
