Senate Democrats must take action on budget instead of pushing state toward a government shutdown
Senate Republican Leader Paul McKinley (R-Chariton) today praised the House of Representatives for moving forward in passing a responsible budget and tax relief plan and called on Senate Democrats to promptly take action on the legislation instead of continuing their plans to push Iowa toward a government shutdown.
“I commend the House Republicans for moving forward on a responsible budget that reflects the true priorities of Iowans, reduces the overall cost of government, protects the taxpayers and puts Iowa back on a path to long-term fiscal sustainability.
It is time for the Senate Democrats to come back to the Senate, get serious about doing the people’s business and take action on this common sense budget and tax relief compromise instead of continuing their plans to push Iowa toward a government shutdown.
We are all aware of what is in this budget as these proposals have been a part of the discussion all session long and Iowans have now had sufficient time to read through the legislation and offer their valuable input.
It is now time for the Senate to come back to work, pass this budget and tax relief plan, finish the people’s business and guarantee the citizens of Iowa that they will not have to endure the uncertainty of a government shutdown.”
