Presidential candidate and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich gave fresh fodder to his critics today, releasing a campaign schedule which includes upcoming stops in Hollywood and Hawaii, but nothing in Iowa for the next month. In fact, the candidate who took two weeks off just after announcing his presidential campaign to go on a Mediterranean cruise, is said to be celebrating his 11th wedding anniversary while “campaigning” in Hawaii.
Now, to be fair, Gingrich’s schedule does include brief stops in New Hampshire before leaving for and upon returning from his jaunt out west. However, with the candidate barely registering in the post-Perry polling there, as well as an ufavorable rating that is more than double his favorable, it may be time for him to consider hedging the New Hampshire bet.
Mr. Speaker, California and Hawaii cannot propel you to the nomination. Iowa can. But if you’re just going to pop in for a couple hours every month or so, then why bother coming at all. Such a half-hearted approach to campaigning only serves to further the perception that you are 2012’s Fred Thompson and to vidicate those who left your campaign en masse in June.
If you don’t intend to run a credible campaign, then get out! You’re just adding to the noise…
