Hey Josh Hafner, Santorum “Talked More About Gay Marriage” Only Because You Asked Him Privately

Saturday’s Des Moines Register headline “Santorum talks more on gay marriage in Winterset” is a bit misleading.  The only reason Santorum mentioned marriage is because Josh Hafner asked him about it alone during an interview after Santorum’s remarks.

Senator Santorum certainly fielded the question appropriately and politely without reservation.  While Mr. Hafner did mention the quote was indeed from an interview, the headline certainly seems predetermined, calculated and intentionaly agenda driven on account the topic did not even come up during Santorum’s speech, nor in any audience questions. This begs another question…

If you Josh were just going to write about your hot button topic of gay marriage, why even attend the event and waste the gas?  Just call the Senator up for a quote about the topic, write about it and go swimming the rest of your Saturday afternoon.

Please don’t mislead people by insinuating that since you asked him a question in Winterset, that it becomes the topic Rick Santorum is speaking to everyone about.  It became an issue in Winterset because you raised the issue and wrote about it like more that three people heard it and they did not.

There was also a car show on Jefferson Ave. in front of the Northside Cafe after the speech.  Saying Santorum talked about gay marriage is like picking out one red wire, from one car at the car show of out of dozens of cars and making that the main story?  Kind of a stretch if you ask me.

Hey Josh you can make any point you want to.  For the sake of readers who were not there and for readers who only skim headlines please don’t make us believe your misleading forced main point should be the headine just because its your idea or agenda.
