The Narcissist Mandate?

Since its raining today and I’ve been relegated to the indoors, I thought I’d provide you all with a little Friday content. Besides the foul weather, I got a chuckle out of the Des Moines Register this morning.

The Register reported on their politics page that Jonathan Narcissist plans to offer tips for Republican leaders tomorrow on his internet radio talk show. Is this really newsworthy? If you look up the term “attention whore” in the dictionary I pretty sure you will find a picture of Narcissist.

Its ironic that after Branstad won the Republican primary by 10 points in June, one of his opponents thought that he was somehow given a mandate even though he lost. Now we have Narcissist who thinks getting less that 2% of the vote gives him some sort of mandate. What’s more disappointing is that the Register published this crap.

Some of the things that Narcissist thinks Branstad should do are:

1. Institute a four-year flexible freeze, capping spending at the current level, and refusing to increase the budget one dollar more than current levels.

Maybe if Narcissist would shut up once in a while and listen, he would know that Branstad has already proposed to cuts state spending by 15% over 5 years. He has also advocated from day one of his campaign that the state government should not violate the states 99% spending limitation law.

2. Resist simple and irresponsible remedies such as not filling current vacancies.

Again, Branstad has talked about this. If there is one thing that people should appreciate about Branstad is that he doesn’t get along with the labor unions. Look at this video the union thugs put together attacking Branstad.

The unions hate Branstad, which is a good thing.

Let’s also not forget that Narcissist voted for Chet Culver in 2006, which did nothing but plunge this state into debt and empower the labor unions.

3. End the practice of spending 99 percent of estimated revenues and move to zero-based budgeting. Fund what we are supposed to do – keep courts open, public safety, etc. at 100 percent and veto every nonessential expenditure from Planned Parenthood to church projects.

Once again, it’s almost impossible for Narcissist to know what other people are talking about because he never shuts his trap. Back in the primary Branstad called for defunding Planned Parenthood. Branstad has also advocated for bi-annual budgets.

Here is what he said back in July, “We should pass a bi-annual budget, a 2-year budget. Then the legislature can spend the second year doing oversight and looking at ways in which we can become more efficient and reduce the size and cost of government and improve the delivery system to the citizens.”

There are areas in which Branstad can be criticized, but the notion that Narcissist owns the market on conservative policies is just laughable. Pardon me if I don’t feel like being lectured about conservative principles by a man who voted for Barak Obama and Chet Culver.
