Show the Semi-Permanent Ruling Class The Door This November

By Rod Blum

In his 1897 book Following the Equator, Mark Twain’s fictional character Pudd’nhead Wilson said that “It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress.”  Amen.

We have a fundamental choice this November between keeping the semi-permanent ruling class in power or electing citizen patriots who will restore some of our stolen freedoms.  The career politicians in Washington and state Capitols have lost touch with the average American.  Many of our politicians’ lifestyles would make even Imelda Marcos blush as they’re chauffeured in limousines and fly in private jets on “fact-finding” junkets, all paid for by the American taxpayer.  Nancy Pelosi condescendingly told us that “we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.”

Barack Obama said that he found the Tea Party protests to be “amusing” and said, “You would think they should be saying thank you.”  And Michelle Obama’s ill-conceived vacation to Spain projected a distinctly elitist image.  The “let them eat cake” approach didn’t play well for Marie Antoinette two hundred years ago and it won’t succeed today.

According to a recent Rasmussen Poll, seventy-seven percent of the American people believe today’s federal government does NOT have the consent of the governed.  No wonder.  A government takeover of our healthcare.  A takeover of an auto manufacturer to save the UAW.  A $787 billion stimulus spending bill, laden with pork barrel spending.  A world-wide apology tour.  Trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see.  Bush’s $700 billion bailout of financial firms.  A cap and trade scheme that will kill jobs and hurt American small business.  Lack of border security and illegal immigration amnesty on the horizon.  All initiatives the majority of Americans do not agree with.  But hey – the ruling class (career politicians) always think they know what’s better for us and our families.

The struggling economy is “Issue One” in voters’ minds.  15.3 million Americans are out of work.  The unemployment rate hovers near ten percent and the real rate of unemployment and underemployment is closer to seventeen percent.  More than 2.8 million homes were hit with foreclosure in 2009.   Last year over 1.4 million Americans filed for personal bankruptcy, a jump of thirty-two percent and business bankruptcy filings increased by fifty-two percent.  Since Obama signed the stimulus bill the US economy has lost a net of 2.2 million jobs – his administration is now 7.5 million jobs short of what he promised the spending bill would create by 2010.

While American families are hurting, Democrats have rammed through trillions of dollars of pork for special interest groups disguised as “stimulus” that clearly hasn’t worked.  Contrary to what the President and his economic wizards believe, massive government deficit spending does not stimulate private sector job creation.  Ask Greece how it worked for them.  The government taking a dollar out of the private sector to give it to a favored group might buy votes but doesn’t create wealth in the economy.  Obama has been correctly branded with an anti-business scarlet letter.

Increasingly Americans don’t want to be governed by the Left or the Right.  They want to largely govern themselves with government providing a small safety net.  In most polls, when pollsters add “none of the above” or “tea party” as choices, these win handily over Democrats and Republicans.  The major division in America is no longer between parties but between the political ruling class elites and the people.  STAND UP AND BE COUNTED.  Get out the brooms and let’s sweep out career politicians in November.
