(Washington, D.C.) — Mark Rees, GOP candidate for Congress in Iowa’s 3rd District, had the opportunity to meet with former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich while in Washington, D.C. Tuesday.
The half hour meeting included discussions of Iowa’s political landscape, the defining issues of the 2010 election, and Rees’s campaign to unseat seven-term Democratic incumbent Leonard Boswell.
“Mr. Gingrich is a brilliant man and a true patriot,” Rees said. “It was an honor to sit down with him and a great end to a very informative day.”
Gingrich is well-known as the architect of the “Contract with America” that led the Republican Party to victory in 1994 by capturing the majority in the U.S. House for the first time in forty years. After he was elected Speaker, he disrupted the status quo by moving power out of Washington and back to the American people. He currently serves as General Chairman of American Solutions for Winning the Future.
Also on Tuesday, Rees attended a Heritage Foundation seminar on possible currency manipulation by China and a luncheon symposium on underfunded pensions at the National Press Club.
Rees is scheduled to meet with members of Iowa’s Congressional delegation Wednesday afternoon. Additional photos from Washington, D.C. are posted on Rees’s website, www.MarkReesforCongress.com.
