Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Steve Rathje, Republican candidate for congress in Iowa’s second district today welcomed the endorsement of former Cedar Rapids Mayor Paul Pate.
Pate, a successful small businessman from Cedar Rapids who is a former State Senator, Iowa Secretary of State, Mayor of Cedar Rapids and President of the Iowa League of Cities, pointed to experience in the private sector for his support of Steve Rathje.
“The number one issue facing our state and this district is jobs. Steve Rathje has the real world experience in not only creating jobs but bringing those that have already left back home. It is without hesitation that I endorse his candidacy and will do what I can to see that he is our next representative in congress,” said Pate.
“I am honored to have the support of a man who has done so much for our state, the cities of the 2nd district and the city of Cedar Rapids like Mayor Paul Pate,” said Steve Rathje.
Rathje, “As we move closer to the primary election, Mayor Pate’s endorsement is a clear indication that this campaign is gaining momentum.”
Steve Rathje is the founder of International Procurement Services, Inc. and the Genesis Group in Cedar Rapids. He is married, a father of four and grandfather of eight.
Pate also endorsed Former Governor Terry Branstad last week.
Former Secretary of State Paul Pate endorses Branstad for Governor
(URBANDALE) – The Governor Branstad 2010 campaign today announced that former Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate is endorsing Terry Branstad’s bid for governor.
Pate, a small business executive from Cedar Rapids who also served as mayor of the city, cited Branstad’s commitment to job growth in his endorsement.
“I worked with Governor Branstad on legislative issues when I was in the Senate, and on job growth while Iowa secretary of state,” said Pate. “He is one of the most committed, energetic and hard-working people I’ve ever met. Iowa will be fortunate to have him at the helm as we confront the challenges we face as a state.”
Gov. Branstad welcomed Pate’s endorsement, and looks forward to working with him to put a focus back on economic development.
“Paul is part of our growing team in this state, and having his assistance on my campaign is greatly appreciated,” said Gov. Branstad. “As a former elected official, and as a business owner, Paul is someone who has a fundamental understanding of Iowa’s business climate. I look forward to working with him as we put in place the policies needed to create 200,000 new private-sector jobs in Iowa.”
