Progress Project Launches Radio Ad Highlighting DeCoster and Culver Ties

Today, The Progress Project launched a 60-second radio ad in Iowa exposing Jack DeCoster’s campaign contributions to the Democratic Governor’s Association, the top financial supporter of Gov. Chet Culver’s re-election campaign.

Jack DeCoster, a millionaire egg producer and Iowa’s only “habitual environmental offender” is at the center of a national recall of contaminated eggs.  Jack DeCoster and Wright County Eggs has drawn criticism in the past for allegations of worker mistreatment and mishandling of manure.  Their questionable environmental practices have exposed millions of Americans to salmonella.

DeCoster has given nearly $500,000 to the Democratic Governors Association (DGA) over the past four years, and Chet Culver’s campaign has received millions from the DGA.

The scandal doesn’t end with DeCoster though.  Governor Culver’s campaign committee is under investigation for alleged illegal campaign contributions from out-of-state casino operations.

“Jack DeCoster should have been thrown out of Iowa when he was named Iowa’s first ‘habitual environmental offender.’  Instead, he has continued to operate and ruin Iowa’s good agricultural name,” said Amanda Weiland on behalf of the Progress Project. “Iowans are tired of dirty money and embarrassed that their own Governor chooses to do business with people like Jack DeCoster.”

Iowans are encouraged to call Governor Chet Culver and ask him to return the dirty campaign contributions.
